It depends on what you want to use it for. If you want to do a lot of typing and run Windows programs, get a laptop of a Surface Pro. If not, you can get that tablet or one of the many different types out there.

This is not a computer - it is a toy. I own a 7" tablet and know that it has a very limited use. It's OK for looking things up. But if you want to 'produce' anything, forget it.

The title of your thread is deceptive, you are not buying a new PC, a PC is a personal computer, you are looking to buy a tablet.

Tablets are great for general web surfing, simple games, facebook, youtube and email. (I guess that is all that many people use PC's for)

But they are a pain in the ass for trying to type stuff, I would recommend getting a keyboard for it, but then that kind of defeats the point of a tablet.

Put it this way, I use my tablet to look at stuff, if I want to do stuff I use my PC. I think that sums it up best.

PC stands for "Personal Computer" and, to me, a tablet is about as personal as you can get.

That is fair enough strollin and well put. I just feel very restricted when using a tablet, I feel that I need to head straight to my PC whenever I need to reply in detail to threads or emails as it is a pain in the ass trying to do it on a tablet.

I added a Bluetooth keyboard to my KFHD to aid in surfing and emails. It is no replacement for a PC. It's a great portable device. Smaller, lighter with much longer battery life than my lap top. The newer android phones are even smaller, lighter with a fair to middlin' battery life and do most all what a KFHD well do...on much smaller screen.

I have a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard for my Nexus 7 tablet but in order to use them, I first need to carry them around with me (rather not). Then I need some kind of a stand to prop the tablet up in order to keep my hands free to use the mouse/keyboard. At that point, the tablet is less convenient than my netbook so I rarely use the mouse/keyboard with the tablet. If I need to type more than a line or two then I would much rather use my netbook, laptop or desktop over the tablet.

For my Nexus 7 I use this Motorola bluetooth keyboard with trackpad. That works very well. Even my wife who types very fast has no trouble dealing with it. But as the others have said, it is another piece of gear to lug around.

I see the main advantage of a tablet in the many useful apps that are available. E.g. the navigation apps and VOIP apps (free calls) are very good and very useful. For little money I even bought a very good office app from Kingsoft. But I hardly ever use it. The screen is just too small.

The other use of the tablet is to carry picture and video files around. Music files are also possible, but for a reasonable listening quality you need good earphones. I have a Sony set - another piece of gear to lug.

At the end of the day, it is probably more practical to carry a small (e.g. 13") laptop around. Unfortunately those are a lot more expensive than my 32GB Nexus 7 for which I paid $230.

If I didn't get the Galaxy Tab 7.0 I would of gotten The Note instead and honestly the guys are right if you plan to do more at best need to have a real pc

You can make these throw commands at the computer but to do super task it's limited

for what it comes with it's not bad for the price the processor is still pretty good even though it's not one of the Big boys and it's a Quadcore that is always a plus 8gb of ram and a 1tb storage looks like a nice deal for 500.00

You are ok with Windows 8 ? if not you might want to keep looking for a win 7 build

Mostly iTunes, Chrome, MAYBE Minecraft and MAYBE Warcraft. I don't plan on trying to Max Skyrim or Crysis (is Crysis still the benchmark of PC gaming?). Maybe in the future. I'd like to have a future proof PC at least. As for Windows 8, it's on my main PC now and once I bought Start8 and put it back to look like W7, I have no problems with it.

You might want to look into one with a separate Gpu Graphics card in short

HD graphics work but if you plan on playing games you at least need one with a decent graphics card and power supply to run the graphics card even if you don't plan on playing max settings HD graphics will still struggle unfortunately

Honestly you could probably build one yourself that would be just as good


Forgot to mention you can obtain a higher model for less if you switch to Ubuntu OS just saying and if you want a little better you can always put win 7 on later or 8

Lets start with your Budget and we can go from there

you are in the US so Newegg.com would be a great place to get parts from would you like to do it yourself ? because it's actually easy and will save you more

For the money it's an OK box for office applications. I would not attempt any gaming because the on-board 2500 graphics chip is not that fast. An i5 or i7 CPU with a 4000 chip would be better. But for real serious gaming you would need a dedicated graphics card (which can always be added).

You should also know that this is the older Ivy Bridge technology - maybe that's why the price is reduced. A more modern Haswell CPU would be my preference.

Last year I bought a Dell XPS 8300 (now 8700) with an i7 and am very happy with that. The Dell 8700s are a bit more expensive but worth checking. In all cases you should plan to add a SSD of 120GB (or more) for the OS which adds appr. $100.

I picked up a SSD for the OS since I heard it drastically decreases loading time and increases speed. Budget is 700 I'd love to bypass building my own if possible. I came up with this on eCollegePC just picking things with no idea if they can co-exist or not without issues.
