Hello. I'm just setting up my new laptop pre-set with windows 7.Since i'm new to the windows 7, I made a mistake and unintentionally removed 'public folder' from the 'libraries' section. I desire to return things in their original arrangement but I cannot find public folder in the desktop or other folders. I need help. Firstly, where do I find public folders? Secondly, how do i make the library show the 'public folders' again as it had been arranged arranged originally.

thanks a lot,
kirins

The public folders are located in C:\Users\Public.

If you have to, you can do a System Restore to change back again.

Reply to Jonathan

Thanks for the reply Jonathan,

Actually, I thought of 'system restore', but back-tracked and didn't finish when the system showed after scanning, that some programs which i think might be important might be affected in the process --by system restore. Balancing, I thought collateral damage may outweigh the benefit. So I am hoping there is a less 'intrusive' solution ......

Try manually adding the C:\Users\Public folders to the library.

If you need to do a system restore, you will just need to reinstall those affected apps.

Hello Kirins, and welcome to Seven Forums.

You should be able to include the correct C:\Users\Public folders back into the library it belonged in.

For example, include the C:\Users\Public\Public Music folder in the Music Library.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

To expand on Jonathan's System Restore suggestion, here are the system recovery options in Windows 7: What are the system recovery options in Windows 7?.

Also, make sure to work in a standard account, rather than an administrator account. You are able to use most of the programs you use in an administrator account from a standard account. However, you cannot install or uninstall some software and hardware, you can't delete files that are required for the computer to work, and you can't change settings that affect other users or the security of the computer. This way you are less likely to make a mistake that is not easily fixable.

Hope this helps!

Cheers,
Cassandra

Try just adding the Public folder back where it belongs (in the Users folder). Then right click on it and select "Restore Previous". If there is a backup, that folder and all the sub folders may be restored.

I removed the all of the public folders from the libraries, but not by mistake but rather by design.

Putting them back is a piece of cake. Just follow Brink's advice.

Adding/removing folders form the Libraries is pleasantly easy.

Hi everyone,

I fixed it. I got the public document back to it's original home in the
document section of the library last night. As karlsnooks said, it should be "pleasantly easy". What got me initially was failing to find where the public document is located and my unfamiliarity with Windows 7. But as soon as I discovered from you guys its location in the c:/users/public/document, and when I found it there, an option readily appeared that says 'include in library' so i clicked on it, and it got back home.

Thank you so much for giving your time and assistance,
Kirins
