Can anybody recommend a decent DVI KVM for Windows 7?

I've always found KVMs pretty much essential, however, I have issues with them getting unresponsive. I want to upgrade from my VGA KM to a DVI one, I need 4 ports, and I want one that works well with Windows 7.

Does anybody have anything positive or negative to say about any product out there? I've been looking at Avocent but they seem to have mixed reviews.

Looks interesting. What cables did it come with? I see you can get 1.8m, 3m and 5m cables to complement it, but the website seems to suggest it comes with 4 cables already.

kvm's are software agnostic, they dont care what OS you are running on the different pc's/devices.

Just be sure that whatever kvm you purchase supports the display resolution that you run.

KVMs don't care what OS you are running. But some OSes care if you are using KVMs. I say this out of experience, nothing more.

Well, saying they care about KVMs might be misleading. They care about having the keyboard and mouse repeatedly unplugged and plugged back in again.

This is precisely why I posed the question. It is based on previous, bitter and painful experience.

Oh the humanity.

Most powered kvm's actually present a keyboard and mouse to the os, even if its not the actively selected device.

Which is precisely I was asking for recommendations. I wanted to ensure I got one of the most that did, rather than one of the some that didn't.

So, any recommendation, other than "most"?

Have you looked into ATEN?

Hey Sunnybyfleet,

I would look at DVI KVMs from ATEN Technology. I found a list of Windows 7-compatible KVMs from ATEN: windows 7.

Based on your need for a 4-port DVI KVM switch, I'd recommend this unit: (CS1764A) ATEN KVM Switch - Simply Better Connections. Several online distributors sell this model.

Good luck!

What is the difference between the CS1764 and the CS1764A?
