Can anyone help me with a blue screen problem

Hi, I wonder if anyone can help me with my windows 7 installation problem as I can't get my oem home 64bit version working and keep getting this blue screen when it restarts. The error message is it begins ok with saying windows is unloading files then next step it flashes a blue screen at me with STOP 0x00000005C (0x0000010B, 0x00000003 and more 0s after this. If that means anything.


I've done the windows 7 test you suggested and it comes up with 3 issues.

No1 telling me it will have to be a custom installation required cause I've got windows xp currently. fair enough I knew that anyway.

No2 telling me Windows Aero Support that this won't support my graphics card, so I went to my graphics card nvidia Geforce 8800gtx by the way and downloaded the driver for 64bit windows 7 but of course this doesn't install untill windows 7 is on my computer but it won't get loaded as it flashes up a blue screen when it prompts me the first time that my PC need to restart. So I don't see how I can update the graphics card driver without being on windows 7 if that is the issue of this blue screen.

No3 tells me that Outlook Express is no longer included in windows 7

I have tried yes a fresh install on a fresh partition and over my current xp 64 bit home.I put in the disc when I am on my XP64 OS setup it comes up with an option to install an upgrade over the top of XP64 and it runs through all the steps ok and connects to the net to get the most upto date installation files then says it has to restart and when it come back on on it flashes up the windows boot manager of windows 7 and gives you the option of windows 7 or previous version of windows and flashes off after about 5 secs. then it flashes the blue screen.

I've also tried the booting from disc on a fresh partition, this time it says unloading windows files and then the blue screen flashes on without it running through any installation screens like it did when I tried to put it on over my xp 64bit version.

Anyone suggest a fix please or is it faulty disc I have.

It's not clear from the language you use, but are you running WinXP when you insert the disc or are you booting directly from the DVD? If the first, that's the wrong way to go about it.

Power up the computer, enter into the BIOS set up to ensure that the computer boots from the DVD, exit BIOS. When the computer flashes "Press any key to boot from DVD" (or words to that effect), press the any key

When it get's to the part about choosing which install you want, choose "Custom".

When it get's to the part about which partition to install onto, I would select that partition and force a format of it. If you are going to take the entire disk and make the computer a single O/S, then delete all the partitions and then create a new one (this will likely also cause the creation of a 100MB partition). Format the big one and press on.

You can try loading that Nvidia driver at the Load Drivers link on the "Choose where to install Windows" screen. Unzip to flash stick or CD, browse from link until it picks up driver.

Can you default to onboard graphics during install by unplugging card?

Please fill in system specs in bottom left corner of your post.

Check your current BIOS version on first bootup screen or by entering BIOS setup. Compare with latest update on maker's Support Downloads webpage for your model computer or mobo.

I don't know exactly what it is, but sound devices seem to be a large problem with Vista and Win 7

Hi

Thanks for the replys, much appreciated, I'll put my memory to 2 sticks, unplug sound card (forgot to mention this yes that 8025-C43 Midi bit must mean my onboard sound but have bought a Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty card so it may be this causing the conflict) and graphics card and see what it says when I try this.

First I unplugged my sound card and went back to normal onboard sound in the bios, unplugged my memory too to 2 sticks of 1mb instead of 2 sticks of 1mb and 2 sticks of 2mb.

tried to boot from disk but no it wasn't having any of it, same plue screen pops up when it says windows is unloading files then it next screen is the blue one.

I wasn't sure about unplugging a graphics card, can you do this, will my motherboard have onboard graphics, there looks a lot of wires plugged into it so I was unsure if I should attempt this.

Gergrocker, I can't really attempt what you say about the nvidia drivers because it never gets to that stage you talk about the load drivers stage.

I'm from the UK , my computer retailer says they don't accept returned faulty software and I would have to contact the manufacturer, does anyone have a UK returns contact info, all I could find on the Microsoft website was something for support costing 43 quid or something to help me out, I'm not paying 43 quid for help to send back something faulty that's just madness. There clearly must of given me a faulty disc as it should work with my spec of PC, its beginning to do my head in as I've been trying this for days now. I didn't think it would be this hard to upgrade to a new OS.

If you bought retail Win7, call MS as tech support is included in price.

There will be more help coming here, I'm sure.

Most all computer makers give you a year tech support. Call them and find someone who will help you. Sometimes I call back 3-4 times until I find one.

I bought it oem and theres no mention in it for any free support. Not that theres anything else I haven't tried here so I just either want my money back from the retailer or Microsoft or a replacement.

Anyone know of who to contact at Microsoft in the UK
