Not sure why you'd want to any compression has the possibility to junk the files

I would not recommend that. If you want smaller files, convert them to .flv. But you will lose a bit of the quality. I just made a test with the Freemake video converter. It converted a 85MB .wmv file to 59MB. But that is about as much as you can do.

Oh, I want to upload it for a friend's computer in another country. Compress it to save some band width for her. She does not have much.

My friend is in a South Asian country. I just called her and found that she has only 500MB per month! She can't afford more. Over there the Internet charges are quite disproportionate when compared to the income. So Youtube is also out.

I can't see how this can be done. All the support is greatly appreciated.

One other option is to put the video on a USB stick or a large SD card and mail that. DVD is probably too small, only 4.7GBs.

I have 65GB in my package and most of it goes waste.

The SD card seems to be the best bet. I have never used one. Where can I get information about them (capacities and prices etc.)? It will be easier to post too.

Below you find SD cards on Newegg or Amazon. 64GB cards are relatively expensive but 32GB cards are reasonable. If you can reduce the size of the video to a bit less than 32GB, then that would be good.

An SD card is like a folder. You put it into the machine, open it and copy your file to it as if you were copying to another folder. No big deal.

You can take both full size cards or Micro SD cards. The Micro cards can also be inserted into many tablets or phones. But with the adaptor that they come with they work like a full size card on PCs. Class 10 cards are the fastest but for your purpose class 4 would be enough.

Kingston is a decent brand.

If you use the mail, you have to consider difficulties involving customs, whether Canadian or Asian. Theft, extra charges, etc.

hello, if you have video files over 4,7 gig. you can convert them into a video file of 4.3 gig. with: dvdflick.
I use it all the time to make blu-ray files fit on a normal dvd disk.
goodluck and oh: it takes a long time to convert: 3 hours or more. And oh, I almost forgot: in the last screen set the thing on "above normal" or you will have a sinc problem. That's it.
And then burn it with a decent program like Nero.

Just a though.
Buy the movie from a proper store and have the movie delivered to the friend.

Example:
Buy the movie for example from Amazon and have the delivery destination to Friend AAA in country BBB.

Use Xmedia Recode. Lower the bitrate and make it as small as you like. Be warned that shrinking it to a crazy small size can degrade the video quality.

Then again if you convert to MP4 files you can use a bit rate to cut the size to less than half of the DVD VOB files and still have a fairly good video. A 16 Gb stick will hold seven or eight hours worth of files. As an extra benefit you won't have to worry about regional codes and player formats. Art.
