hello you helpful unknown friends ! :)

is there a way to altogether avoid the logon screen showing up either at start up or after hibernating ?

I'm sole user of my computer and have set no password or fingerprint lock
normally when I boot up the logon screen is bypassed - but not yesterday when I just could not pass it as it was requesting either a finger swipe or password
restarts did not help and I had to do a hard restart to sort it out

also when I hibernate my machine, the logon screen now always shows up (it did not use to some months ago but I guess some update or other caused this new and unwelcome behaviour....)

so... is there a way... (see above !!!!) :D
thks

   why ?

I followed all the wise advices given me earlier on this post and mostly (MOSTLY) things are fine

but why does the sign in screen pop up now and then at start up ?

this morning I had it particularly bad (and of course, you guessed, I was in a hurry !!! )

the "swipe your finger screen" kept coming after the welcome screen...
I had to make 6 or 7 restarts to get in... I figured I would NEVER manage... and then, WHAT ?

is there any way I can KILL this screen ? (yes, I'm thinking murder !)

hello mitchell65
thanks for your answer
no, as I remember the "swipe your finger" screen has a "switch user" button
when I use this button I have a new screen with 2 buttons :
- on the left I can go back to "swipe your finger" (no thanks :( )
- on the right there is no user name under the button but I am requested to enter a user name and password when I use this button...

I have never used the fingerprint sign in on this computer, nor have I ever used a password
I am the sole user of this machine

I'll pay more attention next time I'm locked out at boot up...
this is not to say that I look forward to it ! :(
have a good day :)

I'm thinking that you might have a problem with your Windows installation. I see you are running the Ultimate Version of Windows 7. In the UK I think this laptop model would come with Windows 8 pre installed. Have you re-installed Windows at all?

yes, I installed win7 on this laptop, but that's over 3 years ago and the issue with the sign in screen is very recent
I actually suspect some update or other....
but for a few days now, all is well :)

It doesn't matter how long ago you installed Windows, it might still be corrupted. Just out of interest where did you get your installation disc from?

I don't really remember where I bought it from, either UK or the US
I was living in Germany at the time, I recently moved back to France
have been trying to find the discs but all my boxes are not sorted out yet
anyway, there is nothing fishy about my win7, it passed all the online recognition hurdles
this said, any OS can get corrupted...

It sounds to me like its some factory bloatware. I would look in control panel-uninstall a program and see if anything mentions fingerprints or what not. If so uninstall it.

But the OP said he bouht the Windos Disc in the UK or USA? I assume he bought a full retail version as he says there is nothing wrong with his version of Windows.

hello
right, there's nothing wrong with my version of win7
I'm not comfy enough with computers to use anything out of the line !! :D

alas, I ran the file checker and it came empty :

systemscan_zps4281b06a.jpg

but I still have the issue with the logon screen which pops up now and then and forces me to make a restart to come in

I fear the day when this  screen comes also after restarts !!!!!

I'm not suggesting for one moment that your copy of Windows 7 is anything but OK but would you be prepared to download and run the Genuine Diagnostics tool (MGADiag.exe) at this link:
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink
and copy and post the result here? Just to double check. If you prefer not to then no problem!
