Yes, you sure can have a dual boot setup that way.

It depends on your licence type. OEM = no, retail = yes.

A lot of things have been changed with Windows 7 and it's no longer possible to have 2 different installs on the same key.

Yes you sure can, All you will need to do is install the os on two partition.

But it may show the same name for both the os during boot selection

In order to change that you may need to use a 3rd party Software such as boot manager

Yes, 1 activation per key. What I cannot understand is why somebody would want to have 2 copies of Windows 7 on the same machine??? If it's mainly as a backup in case the original crashes...why not use imaging instead and have a good copy of your original.

Sometimes it's nice to have another copy to boot into, for whatever reasons.

When I had a serious problem with my graphics card drivers, I was very grateful for my Vista installation. I booted it up, and posted here in this thread: http://www.sevenforums.com/graphic-cards/28946-trouble-installing-drivers.html

A system image restore would have been inconvenient and certainly not appropriate for the situation.

Yes, that's why I like having a couple of machines around the house which can all access the Internet.

I'm not against a dual boot...but it seems like it would be more advantageous to have 2 different operating systems...not 2 of the same thing.

I'm not sure about that. My images take about 10 minutes or less to restore and if you made an image the day before or very recently...you wouldn't really lose much of anything. Especially in my case, where I have a separate data partition.
