can i have independent sound control in this situation? please help!

Ok i have windows 7 ultimate 64bit. my computer is a HP pavilion dv6-1259dx. the front of this computer has 1 microphone 3.5mm jack, and 2 3.5mm headphone jacks. (so that you dont have to have a splitter to have 2 headsets, it already has 2 built in)

first 3.5mm headphone jack is hooked up to a set of computer speakers
second 3.5mm headphone jack is hooked up to a stereo system

both play perfectly fine, the problem however is: when i have both the computer speakers and stereo plugged in at the same time playing, obviously the stereo system is a lot louder than the computer speakers. so what i am wanting to know is, since this laptop has 2 built in 3.5mm headphone jacks, is there a way i can independently control the volume of each jack. I.E. have the computer speaker jack volume at 80% and the stereo speaker jack at 40%??

if i click on playback devices, my speakers and dual headphones are set as the default device. i need the independent dual headphones to be set as the default device, however my computer will only let me set it as default communication device. i have re-installed the driver with no success. i KNOW it has to work because in the independent dual headphones there is a setting to control jack 1 and jack 2 volume and HP wouldnt put it there without it working. I just have to figure out how to make my independent dual headphones as my default device.

if not, are there any programs out there that make this possible?

If they show up differently in "Payback devices", you can adjust the volume seperately under the "Levels" tab. Just double click on the icons and you will see..

thats just the thing, being the n00b i am i cannot figure out how to do that, even if it is possible. it does not pop up automatically if it does work. however if i right click the volume in the task manager then click playback devices it shows 3 things. 1) speakers and dual headphones. 2) independent dual headphones. 3) SPDIF.

i have tried messing with each one, if you double click on the speakers and dual headphones it has an advanced setting that says adjust headphones. click on that it shows 2 bars from 0-100 but no matter how i move those around the sound doesnt change 1 bit. and yes i am hitting apply changes everytime. sigh..... im at a loss

Here is how I suggested to do it:

1. Go to the bottom right of the taskbar and right click on the speaker icon. Then click on "Playback devices"
2. In Playback Devices double click on the output device - Note: I only have one.
3. Then you go to the "levels" tab and adjust the slider.

when i right click and go to playback devices this is what i see:

speakers and dual headphones: default device

Independent dual headphones: default communication device

spdif: disabled

now the problem is the LEVELS you are talking about in "speakers and dual headphones" is only one to change. HOWEVER in my "independent dual headphones" the LEVELS says JACK1 volume and JACK2 volume. therefore i know it has the ability to adjust both jacks independently. the problem is though, i cannot get the "independent dual headphones" to become my default device. instead it is always my default communication device. i have re-installed the drivers and restarted my computer. if i could just get it to be the default device then it would be playing music then under the LEVELS i could adjust jack1 and jack2 volumes like it shows. any ideas? HP wants 135$ to tell me the answer.... SIGH
