Yes, but it should already be turned off. When you installed Kaspersky it should have turned off Windows Defender.

You can check if Windows Defender is turned of, by opening Control Panel & click on Windows Defender & a small notice will open telling you Defender is turned off.

I got the idea to check if a Windows Defender service was running, from a forum thread,

Why Does Windows Defender Keep Needing Updates?

And sure enough there was such a Service running!
I turned off the Service and marked it disabled.

When I run Windows Defender from Control Panel, it says it's Service is disabled. So maybe it was running in spite of Kaspersky taking over. I don't know.

At any rate, without the Service, it won't be able to run, and it won't be asking me to install any more updates, I'm assuming.

Thanks for your help!

Yes, you can as both the Windows Defender and the Kaspersky are doing the same job. Since you have turned off the Windows Defender from the control panel, it is better to disable the Windows Defender AntiVirus services from the services too.

For request timed out error, you may need to disable the firewall and check for the issue.
