Glad you tested it! It's just the contents of vhd that decides if it's possible.
And you must have the win7 or win8 bootmanager.

Well, in the tutorial, I had Vista Ultimate installed on the computer, and had Windows 7 Ultimate on the VHD. It booted from the VHD.

Took the Asus 1025ce a while to get through Customs. Below is a screenshot of the 4 partitions on the 320GB hard drive. The netbook currently only has Windows 7 Starter.

Sorry this is slightly off topic but I've just yesterday acquired a 1025CE, too. I haven't attempted any upgrade yet but as the 1025CE and 1025C seem to vary in their specification, I used Piriform Speccy to establish what I had got on my version.

I was surprised to find it reporting that there are two memory slots, one with 1GB and a second slot free. As you've just got the same machine, I was wondering if you get the same report from Speccy, even though it seems clear from web forums I've seen that there's generally only one slot. Maybe the report is wrong. I haven't attempted to take it apart yet.

I was also wondering if you are the cyberbiker that put a video on changing RAM on Youtube. It seems to have disappeared now, which is a pity as it was the best demo of how to do it that I have seen.

I commented on the vid and mentioned in on a couple websites, but a follow named TechVike put it up. I too noticed it had been taken down when I was ready to change my RAM module.

It only takes about 25 minutes if you do a careful job. Use a 4GB RAM module like the one at
Amazon.com: Kingston ValueRam 4GB PC3-10600 L9 204-Pin SODIMM Notebook Memory KVR1333D3S9/4G: Electronics . With Windows 32bt you'll get 2.99GB usable, but if someone writes x64 drivers for the graphics media accelerator, you can reformat to 64-bit and get all 4GB.

Many thanks for the info. I'll try to track this down. I've seen the Italian video too but the TechVike one was better. It went more slowly at some points where the Italian fast forwarded. The Italian video camera angle wasn't so good either at some points, with a hand sometimes hiding what was going on.

I would have sent a private message but I can't see how to do this. I'm guessing it's disabled until you've reached a certain number of posts, like on many forums.

Yes, it's a great machine. Just what I wanted. I've been a fan of this format for a long time and still have my HP Jornada 820 from the late 90s Hewlett-Packard: HP Jornada 820 Handheld PC Product Specifications
It had 16MB of RAM (8 for system, 8 for storage), no hard disc, instant on, 10-15 hours battery life (hence the name Jornada) 2.5 lbs weight. The modem meant I could use a mobile phone to connect to my company's central computer system. Ideal for travel and business use. But it also shows how far technology has advanced.

I'm still puzzled about Piriform Speccy reporting two memory slots, with one free. I'd be interested to hear what it says about your machine if you felt like trying it. The free Piriform applications are nicely designed and seem to work well but I wonder if Speccy is getting something wrong here. not quite the question you answered but THIS will achieve the same result.

Download vmware player (latest version).
Create two W7 VM's -- X-64 and X-86.

Even on an XP machine YOU CAN RUN A 64 BIT GUEST on a 32 BIT HOST. -- People say otherwise but that's a load of Bovine scatology.

So long as the VT virtualisation ( or equivalent for AMD CPU's) is set in the BIOS (all modern computers have it on anyway) you CAN run a 64 bit guest on a 32 bit host.

The limitation is that GUEST and HOST together on a 32 bit HOST OS will only see a max of 4GB RAM so your 64 bit Guest will probably only have 2 or at the most 3 GB RAM.

A 2 GB RAM guest W7 x-64 machine is fine if you aren't running a shedload of applications.

I originally tested W7 x-64 on a 32 bit XP machine !!.
