Win 7 installation files doesn't have some drivers (SATA, USB3.x & NVMe) needed on new MB. You have to add them to the Win 7 installation files.
The script and the drivers you find on Update your Win 7 installation media

Do you have a graphics card?

Unless Asus provides Windows 7 motherboard drivers it'll be a PITA. There may be some hacked drivers or something.

You might want to consider what I want to do, but this is just me and me alone. It may not be suitable for everyone. Right now I'm checking out something called Windows 10 AME. Pull up your favorite search engine and look it up. You'll want to read EVERYTHING about it. I gave myself back Admin permissions because that's how I roll and have been doing that since XP. I already run a pretty tight ship so it's of little consequence. And I already run my OS without updates so that too is of little consequence. Again, emphasis on running an already tight ship. No hacker/malware crap that I ever discovered in over 15 years going now.

The other thing you might want to check out is striping all the god damn crap out of Windows 10. (And if Microsoft is reading, this, yes, it is CRAP! You done gone F'ed up an OS for a PC (Personal Computer). You need a version for smart things and a version for PCs, not a one fits all pile of fluff with loads of telemetry.) Anyway, to strip the crap out try NTlite. Once that is done you'll want to turn off the update service and if your Windows 10 version supports it, turn off updates in Group Policy as well. Reason being is that once an update trash truck parks its ass on your Comp. and unloads all will be reverted, and updates can screw you over. I've read user's data just go poof, gone, like magician's flash paper after an update hosed over their computer. Then sometimes "updates" need updates. I've read lots about that pile of smelly rat vomit as well. It's probably due to low QC (Quality Control) on updates. It may not happen to everyone, but it's like putting a desert eagle up to your hard drive or PSU and pulling the trigger with a magazine full of blanks were one one bullet has live ammunition, and at that is a f^%&*& hollow point! Anyway... Yeah, Windows 10 is a POS. And here I thought Windows 8 was bad. Here's a funny video on that (NSFW).

Edit-

And it appears the solution is in post #3.

Ok thank you guys for the information. I have been trying to clean up the mess that is Windows 10, but as has been stated , it is a major PIA. I like Win 7, but have heard horror stories about the Sata and USB drivers missing in the MB. the subject I see most often is to add the drivers to the installation disc. I have an EVGA GT 1660 graphics card, 32 gigs of memory, 3T and 4T HD, so plenty of room and the OS is on a 125gig ssd by itself. I am aware of the updates from Microsoft being lame and people getting BSODs from them. Along with all the garbage they put in this OS and trying to stop any control we want over our PCs, they want to farm all of our info. I will see about adding the drivers for USB and Sata to my installation and hope it works.

Thanks again

I think you are making a mistake running Windows 7 on this computer. ASUS has no drivers for Windows 7 for this motherboard so you are on your own.

Why do think your computer is slow?

I think going from a GTX 1660 to a RTX 3050 will only give a 5-10% improvement. For example, going to a RTX 3060 Ti will give about 90-100% improvement. What GPU you need depends upon the games you want to play and what expectations you have. Unless you want to get a much better GPU stick with 1080p or at most 1440p.

Your 128GB SSD boot drive is way too small. You are much better off with at least a 500GB one.

BTW, I started with a 500GB SSD for a boot drive. I had a 2TB HDD for data. I had to add a 1TB HDD because it wasn't long before I ran out of space on the 500GB SSD boot drive. I replaced all of these drives with two 2TB SSDs.

Five years ago I built a computer with an ASUS Prime X370 Pro motherboard and an AMD Ryzen 7 1700X CPU. Even though ASUS has Windows 7 drivers for it I installed Windows 10 Pro on it. I have no intentions ever putting Windows 7 on it. Besides I have several other computer with Windows 7 on them that are more suitable because they have more appropriate hardware and Windows 7 drivers.

Thank you Mister Ed, you bring up some interesting points I may have missed. I have a win 7 tower with win 7 Ultimate, SP1, 4.00gigahertz AMD A8-5600 APU, ASRock FMA 85X Extreme 6 MB , 16 gb Crucial DDR3 memory, 2T system drive, 4T game storage drive, 8T backup drive, and a GeForce GT960 GPU card. This has been pretty good until about 2 months ago i started getting a BSOD when i went to shut it down. I would go to shut down and it would just sit, disable all my USB and about 20-30 minutes later BSOD I tried running down the error and cause, but have not been successful. So I built the Win 10 tower thinking it was time to go newer. The reason I thought win 10 was slower was running the same games and programs on both PCs it seems the win 7 is faster to boot and process things, plus the Win 10 PC takes a lot longer to boot and a bit more hassle to find things on the newer tower. Now it might be me not having enough experience with 10, or I have missed something, or could have wrong settings on the new PC. that is why I came here to the forums to see what I could learn . I was disappointed that the Rysen 5 3600 and the X570 Asus Prime board were not all that much better than what I had, plus the Win 7 PC is about 10 years old.
The games I have been playing are Enlisted, and Snowrunner, which my wife and I both play

Do know whether your old computer has hardware failure or corrupted software? If you don't know have you tried a clean install of Windows 7 on it? Some people look for a simple fix but many times the easiest thing to do is simply reinstall everything.

On your new computer you could do a dual-boot of Windows 7 and Windows 10. That will give you a good way to evaluate both versions of Windows. You might find that Windows 10 is not so bad after all. You might even decide to keep both versions of Windows on the computer. That is because you might find some games or other software that works better one operating system or the other.

These are just some things to think about. In the end you have to decide for yourself how you want to go forward.

=============================================================================================

To show you where I am coming from I show you my two best desktop computers as shown below.

I have upgraded each over the years. Desktop #1 boots slower than Desktop #2 but no matter. Desktop #1 is simply much faster that Desktop #2. Desktop #2 now has the GPU that used to be in Desktop #1 but that doesn't make up for the fact that Desktop #2 is still slower overall.

BTW, I stopped using Desktop #2 for over a year because it was so much slower than Desktop #1. I breathed new life into it when I replaced its 1TB HDD boot drive with a 1TB SSD. Now, not only does it boot a lot faster but it is a lot more responsive at the desktop.

Each computer has its own uses so I will keep both going as long as possible.

That is what is driving me nuts, the older PC runs fast on everything, plays any game I throw at it, has been great Until I go to shut it down at night. I have looked everywhere I could think of to try to find the problem, dump files and the error number, but nothing concrete. i want to know why so I can correct it . I had some weird trouble with USB hub a while back, everything is working OK now. I don't believe it is hardware failure, because the shut down is the only trouble I have seen. That leaves software corruption or a bug.

I did install Startback on the Windows 10 PC and it is a bit better, I guess i just don't like the way the access is changed from what we have been used to. I read where that is supposed to be less and less as each edition of Windows is introduced. Microsoft wants us to let them lead us around by the nose and have control of everything by popular now and trending suggestions , since to them we are just sheep anyway.

I want to say I am very appreciative of all the information you have given me here. I can see where I maybe I am being biased on Win 7. The dual boot could be a way to test if both OS will work on the new build. By the way , nice PC builds and thanks for sharing them with me. I see I still have much to learn. My wife's new PC has Win 11 on it and I am seeing much more about the new Windows .

I have some work to do starting with a fresh/refresh install of Windows 7 Ultimate 64 on the old PC and look at trying to dual boot the new computer.

Than you Mister Ed for your time and information
