Can I make a Recovery Disc for Win8 on a DVD ?
Or am I bound to CDs or Thumb-drive ?

If DVD is possible would appreciate link to a tutorial.

Just do it the same way as for a CD, but insert a DVD into the optical drive. Or am I missing something?

Hello Russell,

Here you go. It's the same method, but just use a DVD instead as Golden posted above. This will only be a system repair disc, and not like a recovery drive (USB) where you could also copy the contents of the recovery partition to the USB though.

Do note that the system repair disc feature is no longer available in Windows 8.1. The only option in Windows 8.1 is the recovery drive.

I want to create a "Factory Recovery drive" of pre-installed Win8 OEM, before clean installing Win7 onto the same PC. ie a downgrade
Not a Rescue/Repair Disk.
PC came with Win8 pre-installed and has the Win8 OEM partition.
I am using the PC manufacturers pre-installed "Create a Recovery Disc" feature to create the "Factory Recovery Disc"

If ultimately the PC develops a mechanical fault, I will use the Factory Recovery disc to return the PC to its factory state.

My first attempt onto an 8GB thumb drive failed because the TD at 8GB was too small for 11.3GB required.

As I understand it, there are two ways (or maybe three) of storing the "Factory Recovery" partition/stuff. (!?)
1. Thumb drive (at least 16GB)
2. CDs (probably two of them)
3. DVD possibly ?

Thumb drives concern me for long term (like, years) of data storage .

In Windows 8, you would need to use a larger USB flash dive for this. Using a CD/DVD is not supported for the recovery partition.
