Solved can i not use creative drivers for my x-fi titanium?

i have an x-fi titanium card but i must not be doing things right. i have sound and all but i thing its all windows doing. in device manager it doesn't say anything about creative. theres no creative tools, and when i try and install the latest drivers the installer says theres newer drivers installed and stops. what am i doing wrong? can i not have all the creative bells and whistles on windows 7 64 like i had in xp?

I will try to answer this to the best of my ability.
obviously make sure the onboard Audio is disabled in bios if you haven't already.

What I have done for my Xtreme-Gamer is go to the Official Site and download the latest of:
1) The Driver for Win7 x64
2) The Audio Console Launcher

Dont Install them just yet.

From the Windows Vista CD that came with your card, choose a custom installation.


Install ONLY the THX Console, and Volume Panel.
Reboot as required.
(Please Note: You may need to browse the disc for setup.exe, right Click and under Properties Tab, choose run in compability mode for Vista SP 1, and also check the Run as Admin box -- then run the setup

Once back in Windows, install the Audio Console you downloaded from the official site.
Then last, Install the driver.

This is how I have done with mine, and have had no issues with my X-Fi Xtreme gamer Under Win 7 x64.
I do not install all the extra software however, and only the main apps.
Console launcher/ and THX Console.

If you want the rest, afterwards download the latest from the official site and install seperate.
(This goes for Alchemy as well)

The only other option you may have, is try the Daniel K drivers.
That is if you are wanting all the extra Consoles etc.

I do not think you can DL the THX console or volume control panel from the official site.

why is it that even in device manager the drivers for the audio device says microsoft instead of creative? how do i scrap all remnants from this botched install and start over?

found this RightMark 3D Sound. Products. Audio Rightmark it states that i dont currently have eax..... i dont currently have a game with eax so i cant confirm if this is right. can anyone confirm if their driver says creative as aposed to microsoft in device manager?

any ideas? i dont know whats up with the nvidia high definition audio entries either...

The Nvidia one will be the built in audio on your video card, as to why you have 4 of them showing I have no idea. The "high definition audio device" as long as the onboard audio is disabled should be your X-Fi. For whatever reason there are times on a clean Windows install or adding the card after it isn't detected by Windows (had this happen with my X-Fi both times I have clean installed 7) and it takes manually installing the driver, and then you can get the apps to install and the card will work.

To install just the driver manually start with wither the latest driver from Creative,

Creative Worldwide Support > PCI Express X-Fi Titanium

or you can use the daniel_k set mentioned. Then you will need something like Winrar to extract whichever one you decide to use then follow this to install the driver manually,

when you get to step 5 browse to the,

XFTI_PCDRV_LB_2_17_0008\Drivers\wdm

folder if using the driver from Creative, or to the,

XFI_SupportPack_2_0\Drivers\20K2\wdm

folder if using the daniel_k set.

Personally I would start with the daniel_k set, get the driver installed, then assuming the driver installed then run the setup.exe in the main extracted folder and pick and choose which of the apps you want to install.

the driver downloaded from creative is an .exe not a zip, so i cant browse to the driver. whats this daniel k set and were do i get it?

The download may be an exe, but it can be extracted with Winrar or 7zip.

ok, extracted to desktop and pointed to wdm but it says windows has determined drivers are up to date

i am getting so frustrated!. i physically removed the card after uninstalling the high definition audio device from system manager. booted without card, verified that i only had the 4 nvidia entries. ran the setup for the driver, it stated no device was found and exited. i shut down, install the card and reboot. ofcourse windows quickly installs the device with its own drivers. im still unable to update the driver because it says either driver is up to date or newer driver is found.

i came accross a post on the net where the recomendation was to kill access to internet and turn off windows updat and install. this didnt work but when i was in windows update there was a message saying i had 2 optional updates. one for x-fi and one for videocard. i installed the x-fi update and what do you know it worked. i have creative options now in sound settings. the video update is probably due to me rolling back vid driver to previous. it performed a little better. this was crap though, why did i just have this update sitting there? should i install the dts, dd, and launcher now?

i went ahead and installed the dts, dd, launcher and diagnostics. it ALL WORKS NOW. hopefully others will find this post....
