Can I select which Aero features to disable/enable?

I've noticed that everything is a bit snappier without Aero on, but I still want the transparent taskbar. Is there any way to disable Aero, but leave the Aero-style taskbar enabled?

It won't be the exact Aero taskbar, but you can adjust the transparency. A Guy

Thanks, I tried that but it wasn't really what I was looking for. After a lot of searching I found a way to turn on/off specific Aero features.

I'll leave it here for any future web explorers who are having the same issue:

- Run "sysdm.cpl" (you can also just search for it in the search bar)
- Click the Advanced tab
- Click Settings under Performance

That's all there is to it!

Ahhh, OK, that doesn't disable Aero, but, yes, there are settings there that can affect performance
