Solved Can I use slmgr on a drive conneced to a different computer?

I have a WD 1TB drive with Windows 7 Home Premium installed on it. The computer that it was in is completely apart for a rebuild. Upon reassembly I'm going to install Windows 7 Pro and use Windows 7 Home Premium for a HTPC build.

Can I connect the WD drive to my laptop (with a SATA dock) and use slmgr to deactivate Windows 7? I forgot about doing it before I took the computer apart.

Just insert the Product Key again during Clean Install Windows 7. If prompted during activation with the question if Win7 is only installed on one PC, you must answer Yes which will effectively deactivate it on any other PC once it connects to the web.

If you're moving Win7 to new hardware after Sysprepping or using adaptive restore, then that removes activation anyway.
