Can my friend use my Windows 7 CD to install in his system?

My friend needs to install Windows 7 and wanted to know if he can use mine or copy it for his system. I am not sure if this is legal or if will even work. Any help will be appreciated.

No, that is illegal and you can get into considerable trouble by doing it. Also, if the key is used on several computers it will be deactivated.

MY friend had a windows 7 home premium genuine version but after he install the ubuntu on his lap he can not recovery windows it say the recovery partition is missing if there a way to install windows 7 home premium using ultimate disk so he has a own genuine home premium key

This is absolutely legal since Win7 and your computer are your property and you have the right to the cleanest possible install of the best OS ever. Manufacturers no longer provide a clean-copy Install DVD to enforce the sponsor's bloatware which provides their profit margin but impinges on Win7 performance. Hmmm...that is not the case, you don't own windows 7, you have merely paid for a licence to use it.

I don't suppose it will cause a problem as long as you use legal discs and keys, but it is a shaky argument legally.

Not really.
If you have a legitimate key to activate with ..
You can borrow anyones DVD to install the OS. So long as you you have a legit Key, thats all that matters.


They only thing you must be mindful of, is your key must match the type installed, Basic, Home Premium, Ultimate etc.

If it doesn't, follow Gregs tip & install the one you want.

He can certainly use your disc. He cannot use your key.

I hate to say it, but no one owns Windows 7 (except MS). All anyone can do is license it. You can buy a pretty box with a shiny CD and you will be the proud owner of a pretty box with a shiny CD - you still don't own Windows 7. Have you never read the EULA? (Not that I'd blame you if you didn't - life is short Borrowing the physical media for installation using your own legitimate key is completel legal.
