Several months ago, my Windows 7 64-bit Pro laptop could no longer map a drive to my Buffalo Linkstation NAS. I have been using it for years, and my Windows 10 laptop and iPhone with File Explorer app have no problem connecting to it. I have tried both via Wifi and network cable with the same problem. I can ping the NAS, connect to it's GUI via browser, and even connect so that I get a logon prompt. I enter my credentials, it thinks for 10 seconds, then prompts me again for credentials, then fails with the error: "the mapped network drive could not be created because the following error has occurred: The specified network name is no longer available".
I have done some research, and it seems there could be a tie to a Microsoft fix following WannaCry and the use of SMB1. I have tried changing a registry entry to enable SMB1, but this didn't work.
Buffalo will not help me, says it's a Windows problem.
Any advice?
