Can not change partions at fresh reload

Have a 1 tb hard drive i had split into 3 partitions--one for os and programs--1 for games--and remaining space for storage--pc was acting funny and has been awhile since i built it anyway so was going to do a fresh install and and delete all partitions and just go with one,started disk picked time language and keyboard picked custom install and when i get to the partion screen it will not let me change or delete any of them in the advanced screen,the delete button is greyed out all i can do is reformat the os partition i made and the one that the system made i can format,i know i have deleted and changed partitions in this screen before,Any ideas

You can use Diskpart to delete partitions or make and use a Partition Wizard Boot CD.

Partition Wizard Bootable CD allows user to manage partition directly with partition manager bootable CD.

There`s no real reason to delete all the partitions, unless that`s really what you want to do. Just format the windows partition

Yes i want to delete all partitions and start with a 1 tb drive as if it were new out of the box,no partitions just the c drive and system allocated space and start with a complete fresh set up

Did you boot the Install DVD or start it from a booted Windows 7 system? Has to be booted to makes changes to partitions, like delete and create.

yes i put in the disk which is 64 bit hp oem and then restarted the pc and f12 into the boot menu and selected cd rom and it runs,says starting windows and then goes to the set language and keyboard stuff then select custom install and then get to where the partitions are and it will not let me do anything except format them it greys out the delete on all of them so there is a problem somewhere then i think

That is very odd, but you can use the links I posted to delete all the partitions.

Don`t understand why your install disc won`t

Maybe because it`s an HP oem disc :huh:

If you have a readable COA with your activation key, you could use Greg's tutorial to create a Windows 7 Install disc.

Ya i don't understand either i know i have done it before its software i purchased from newegg (windows 7 64 bit oem which is what i buy for all the builds i do)and i have purchased alot over the years so it's not branded,I appreciate the assistance anyway guys thank you.

maybe this is doing something in the set up partition screen the partitions are listed as dynamic don't think they should be

Didn`t you get a warning message ?

Your disk should be basic, not dynamic

i DO NOT remember seeing anything for warnings and i did not change anything manually and i am the only person that uses the computers,i didnt think that looked right my ham radio computer i built and the laptop i'm on now are basic

Right, you can`t convert it while you`re using it, but post a shot of disk mgt.

You don`t need another hard drive, you just have to convert it.

You will have to read the Tutorial, very carefully

Get any data you want off it before you start.

nothing i can't replace easily really dont store much on it other than shooter games,I'ts my gamming pc i built about 4-5 years ago,think this will be a tomorrow......or actually a today problem when its daylight,i'll see if i can get a shot up im using the laptop right now

Ding! That may have been it, but I seem to recall being able to wipe partitions from disk-boot. You have to hit an "advanced" button that's in there, then all of those extra cool partitioning things magically appear.

OK nevermind im on a mission now lol.......i got it i used the "clean" in the command prompt on the boot scrren and it worked thank you very much for the links and the help i appreciate it.
