Can not delete playlists from library

Hi, not sure if this has been discussed anywhere here.

I had some playlists that I've both created and seemed to come from nowhere, showing up in WMP 12.
I've just arranged my music so I can use the library in windows explorer and WMP properly, as well as deleting the playlists which I was going use for various types of music playback.
Problem is, the ones I deleted (from their original location) and from media player, are still there (in WMP playlists tab). The new ones don't show up in the playlist tab of WMP. So I have to go to 'My music' to get the playlist which is annoying, as well have having all these poorly named playlists that I can do nothing with and didnt create, staying in WMP which is really irritating...

Anyone got some advice?
Cheers

1. For the new ones, go to the Library entry, right click on it and "Add to windows media player list".
2. To delete in WMP, click on Playlist in the left pane. Then it will show all of them. Try to delete it there. Works for me.

Yeah Ive tried all the obvious stuff already... That's not the problem, the problem is these functions are not working. Like I left click on a playlist and choose rename, rename it, and it reverts back to the old name, Same happens with left click and delete, nothing...

Im sure if I could rid these old playlists, saving and seeing the new ones won't be a problem...

first open folder options and select show hidden files, folders and drives, then go to users>[account name]>appdata>local>microsoft>media player>sync playlists and you can manually delete the playlists you don't want. You'll have to shut down WMP in order to delete anything in that folder, but that should solve your problem

Ill give that a try thanks...

Well it didn't work, I can see a bunch of other playlists there which look like generic ones but none have the names of the playlists i'm trying to get rid of.
It's like media player thinks they're still there so keeps them in the library, but you can't do anything with them because there's no path to the original... Any other ideas?

okay, I was able to recreate your problem on my computer. I'll figure it out and get back to you

Oh great! (for lack of a better expression), I'm glad that it is an actual problem in other words, hope you can find a solution, thanks heaps!

Okay.... apparently if you delete playlists from the my music folder instead of through wmp you get this problem, and it can be solved by deleting the database and local_mls files from the users>[account name]>appdata>local>microsoft>media player folder, but all your music will have to be re-added to WMP when you're finished... which isn't exactly a great solution if you have a huge collection, but it still fixed it

Well my music selection isn't to huge, and i've done that a couple of times already trying to get these libraries to work nicely anyway (re-arranged everything, everywhere)... So it's not a problem, Ill see how it goes...

I was having the exact same problem and it was driving me insane untill i found this thread. I just deleted the Local_mls files and not the database and that allowed me to delete the unwanted playlist and I didnt have to re-add all my music, it was all still there and my other playlists were all still intact. Thanks madtownidiot!
