can only save pictures as "untitled.bmp"

I upgraded to win7 home premium from vista home premium last Sunday. Today, I try to save a picture and my only choice is titled "unttitled.bmp". Even pictures that I've downloaded and saved before as, for example, 1234.jpg now want to be saved as untitled.bmp. The save as type box only lists .bmp as a choice. Is there some setting I may have changed to only allow me to save pictures as a .bmp? My computer is a Dell 531s with an amd athalon 2.3 4400+, 3g ram and 320 g sata hard drive. I did not have this issue before upgrading to win7. Thanks for all the help!

Hello and welcome to the forums.

Firts things first, i'm not liking the upgrade, but im not certain it has somethnig to do with your problem.

When your saving your images, what program(s) are you using?

Thanks for the response. I guess I don't know what you mean what program I'm using. Maybe this will help: I would be on a webpage, say corvetteforum.com, and try to save a picture of a car or a part. What I'm doing is right clicking the picture-> left click "save picture as"-> I choose the destination folder-> file name appears as "untitlted.bmp" and save as type is ".bmp". The only choice in the save as type box is .bmp. If I click on the arrow on the right, the only choice that comes up is .bmp. Even if I Try to save a picture that I have saved before as- for example 454545.jpg, the picture now wants to save as untitled.bmp.
I did not have this problem until I upgraded to win7.

Have you tried using another browser to save the image from?

hmm, i googled your problem and a possible solution for IE, but im not sure about your other browser, i never asked what it was?

This issue is caused when Microsoft Internet Explorer has a damaged or corrupt file. To resolve this issue, follow the below instructions.

1. Empty your Temporary Internet files.
2. Delete any Unknown or Damaged objects by clicking the Tools menu and Internet Options. Within the General tab of Internet Options, click the Settings button. Click the View Objects button and delete any objects that have a status of Unknown or Damaged.

I really appreciate the time you're spending helping me with this. I may be lost as to what browser is. I'm on Comcast cable and use AOL. What has my confused is everything was ok before I upgraded to win7.

If his fix doesn't work for you...do a repair install
