Can see drive wont boot windows 7

Hello and yes a newbe...Cant believe I did this after running my boat into a buoy (not kidding comes in three's)...I never had sucess installing my 5 in1 card reader upstairs on the server. Worked fine on my laptop Win 7 Ultimate on the server with wind 7 64-bit no luck previously. So I downloaded driver all worked fine got my pictures and thought job well done. Then my update screen said 17 important updates so OK lets install them so I did ask me to reboot...never has booted back up since with attempted fixes.

So since I build computers and know some basic stuff I got on windows forums did all the suggestions in DOS chkdsk etc. and nada. So i have another good working PC and took the c:drive out of server and installed it so i could see the files at least and I do .During all my failed repair attempts never got a blue screen drive is not hot. I even attempted to do a back up from April no luck I have c: drive is OS and backup is d:

My quick books is really what I'm needing but when I look at both drives on this computer they look nearly identical so not sure what the next step is?

By backup, do you mean you did a System Restore to a date in April and that did not help?

How did you run chkdsk? Did you boot a Windows 7 install DVD and run it from there?
Have you tried doing Startup Repair (up to 3 times) from the install DVD?

Yes April backup failed...ran chkdsk from DOS...i will have to check start up repair link you posted doesn't ring a bell

Yes i have done that test and that what it keeps doing looping with that program runing... currently says it's repairing however it does not. Is there any software that address these issues? Like i mentioned i can see the drive just fine on this computer ...so I'm probably need profession help here locally perhaps?

Failed updates normally roll back via System Restore during Startup Repair. If it doesn't offer it after a few separate Repairs, run it manually from System Recovery Options.

Your OP makes no sense at all, but all runs together. Please convey individual thoughts fully.

Repair disc attempt failed now what?

Doing a new post since I failed to be specific in the first attempt. My computer would not reboot after I installed software for my card reader using usb. Even though my card reader worked and I successfully retrieved my pictures . The windows update screen came on so I installed 17 updates successful. After computer re-booted is when the trouble began and has not been fixed yet and I will detail my efforts.

1) It attempted a repair automatically and I let it run its course and it took some time howver it said windows could not repair computer did that 7 times.
2) The display read "windows cannot repair computer automatically"

I tried to reboot went back to doing same thing with no fix at repair computer auto running with same message:windows cannot repair. I then made a repair disc it worked as stated here in forum with copy of cd succesful. I ran reapir it ran from CD as suppose too and did it twice first time ran along time no repair 2nd was short no reapir.

With new information what is next step? I'm not real advanced about at my limit I'm thinking. Any other ideas greatly appreciated or experience with my problems. I see alot of my similair type and screen shots over the net. I've been to Microsoft and your post are the ones for the help so I'm commited to see this through.

OK, that's clearer. You seem to be on the right course. Again, Startup Repair should have offered System Restore but I would run it separately all the way back if necessary from System Recovery Options.

From there work through these steps which compile everything possible for Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Start leading up to if necessary rescuiing your files to run Recovery or get the superior Clean Reinstall.

I did all the task as you stated again and then some more ran the malwarebyte found 2-files deleted those still not working. When I ran sfc /scannow it reports: There is a system repair pending which requires reboot...which I perform to no avail many times. I was able to get some of the old backed up .PST files for outlook and put on new computer...however no contact list?

Still puzzles me how this could happen (just by down loading driver for USB board and why windows does not load after all these attempts? Even In the beginning when it started my repair last configuration thought I could save Windows (tryed them all but now they are gone until my back-up date 4-26-12 . I had many recent places to back it up as a good configurations. That had worked on other machines previously so my thinking Windows is really corrupted beyond repair.

In all these test could the system registry have come corrupted or any other last ditched attempts? Also did the scannow offbootdir offwindir as you directed still got the same eroor message (yes it is not typed her correctly I realize): There is a system repair pending which requires reboot.

I restored my QuickBooks until two months ago which isn't bad...but my thinking maybe out of place even if I restore windows does that keep all the current Quick books and Outlook data until the crash or no guarantees?

So what safegards if any can i avoid next time or is this just my ignorance if we run out of fixes?

You can browse into the unbootable Win7 to copy out Contacts and Favorites plus any other User folders under your User Name. This is Step 9 in the Troubleshooting tutorial.

If youre sure you've tried everything given to start unbootable Win7 then I'd take the time to get a perfect Clean Reinstall from that tutorial also given, using only the tools and methods described. Once it's set up and running perfectly save a Win7 backup image which you can use in the future if Win7 ever become irreparable again.
