Can someone please help me understand the crash dump?!

Hi!

My computer has been crashing for a while now but I never knew how to fix it since I am a novice. It has been crashing because of ntoskrnl.exe and win32k.sys, according to bluescreen viewer.

Basically, I have done everything I could: flashing the bios, reinstalling windows, updating all the drivers (including graphics card), and running memtest86+ and windows diagnostic. There are no errors so I am not sure if it's the ram. I really want to know what's wrong with it!

Please help!

I only have 2 minidumps because I just reinstalled my computer but in the past, it was problems with those 2 modules. In the past, it would say IRQ drivers not equal or page fault in nonpaged area. Not just memory management like now.

Thanks!

Your best bet is to look inside Event viewer and see what is causing the BSODs.

It would take ages to explain to a novice all the intricacies of how a computer works to understand a memory dump. Plus there are faster ways to solve things. Next, I see your computer is self built. Have you run a burn test, like Prime95 for 24hrs? It will help narrow things down.

Hi! I downloaded Prime95 and it has been running for 3 hours and no crashes yet. So I will keep it running and hope for the best.

As for Event Logger, I had been looking at that religiously after each crash but there are no errors that occurred within 1 hour of the BSODs. The 2nd crash that didn't get logged on the crash dump I think was caused by sptd, which related to Daemon Tools. So I just uninstalled that. Anything else I can try? Thanks again!

Hi,

Code:
e1y60x64.sys Tue Aug 19 09:45:05 [COLOR=Red]2008[/COLOR]
Which is a Intel(R) 82567LM Gigabit Network Connection Driver, needs to be updated.

You should find it here: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Default.aspx

Can you tell us more about your RAM issues and how you solved them?

EDIT: I notice that sptd.sys is still present in those 2 dump files - did you uninstall Daemon Tools before or after those BSODs occurred?

Hello again. I installed the latest gigabit driver from Intel. I hope that solves the problem!

Can you tell us more about your RAM issues and how you solved them?
I wasn't sure there were RAM issues since the memtest86+ was fine as was the Windows Memory Diagnostic. I simply forgot to save the dumps from the previous BSODs when I reinstalled windows a few days ago. I was hoping a reinstall would solve the problem but it didn't. I actually just found 3 other dumps from the Windows.old folder and attached them to this post.

I notice that sptd.sys is still present in those 2 dump files - did you uninstall Daemon Tools before or after those BSODs occurred?
I uninstalled daemon tools after the BSOD dumps I uploaded here which was why they were still in the dumps.

Thank you so much for all the help and guidance!

Hmmm.. Looking at the old dumps aswell it does appear that hardware may be at fault.

I do not think it is your video card though; lets just see what happens now.

The 3 dumps attached to last post are from 11 May 2010 - older than the dumps attached to your initial post.

See if Driver Verifier can be of help here - Driver Verifier - jcgriff2.com

Hi! I finished running the prime95 for 24 hours and not a single BSOD. Maybe the gigabit driver solved the problem. But I will try running Driver Verifer to figure out if everything is ok anyway.

Thanks again for all the help! I really appreciate it.

Hello again! Driver Verifier has been running for over 24 hours now and now BSOD. So no BSOD in 48 hours.

Hopefully everything is cured and maybe it was just the gigabit driver that messed things up. Thanks again and just wanted to tell everyone the good news.

If you haven't crashed driver verifier by now you wont. Turn it off and reboot.

Unfortunately, I am back with another BSOD. This one is like the other ones according to BlueScreenViewer and it's problems with the win32k.sys and ntoskrnl.exe. I installed windows update at 4:45 and it crashed at 5:30. So would it be caused by windows updates?

I attached the minidump. Any ideas? Thanks again!

Remove Daemon Tools or any other CD or ISO Virtualization program. I see sptd.sys in the dmp, which is notorious for causing BSODs.

I uninstalled daemon tools already so I have no idea why that driver is still there. Is there anyway to remove that driver manually? Thanks!

Sure, go to C:\Windows\System32\Drivers and delete it. Be sure to reboot afterward.

Deleted, thanks. I hope that solves the problem although when I ran driver verifier, sptd never crashed it. My ipod was plugged in when this BSOD happened, not sure if that has anything to do with it.

TBH I have never seen sptd.sys listed as the cause of a BSOD. It usually shows up as a memory error, or a system file.

Hey, unfortunately I had another BSOD but I think it might just be something I did.

I was updating the firmware for my dvd-rom drive and when it restarted and logged back into Windows, it crashed. I have uploaded the minidump. I hope I am right about this. I rebooted and it seems fine again.

Also, after deleting SPTD.sys from drivers folder, I am getting the error in event logger: The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load: sptd. How do I fix this?

Thanks again!
