Only reason you might need 8 is if you are planning to run 64bit, other wise 4 works just fine on my inspiron.

Welcome to Windows 7 Support Forums.
Your selected machine's motherboard supports 2 channel DDR 2 memory, so you are able to double up to 2 gig sticks, for a maximum of 6 gigs of total resident memory. However some considerations to take into account:
  • What need do you have for 8 gigs?
  • Cost, a double stick will run you between $60 to $80
  • Heat, the increased ram comes withmore internal heat.
So choose wisely. If its a contest to has the biggest gun it will be a waste of resources.

Regards,
Adrian

F17ZY,

So far I have three different 64bit computers running win7 64bit with only 4gb memory. I have had no problems needing more, but I don't do any gaming.

It really is in the using. If you make your computer scream then 8, if not, and you dont do video editing or, some intensive apps 4. My lap brick was running win 7 ultimate in 1 gig, just figured ram is cheap so wth.

4 will be fine

I run 8Gb in my machine (4x2GB)
For my personal needs, its a good thing to have.

But is it for you? Not everyone will see the benefits of more than 4GB RAM.

As far as daily common tasks and gaming...

I never exceed 4GB. usually 2-3 MAX running a game and web browser.

The only time my system ever utilizes anything beyond the 4GB, is when encoding HD video and doing other things at the same time.

I/E Photoshop, Encoding a HD Video, browsing Internet, and listening to music all at the same time, It might peak at 6Gb give or take.

Unless you use such memory intensive apps alot, or at the same time as many other RAM intensive apps, 4GB is plenty to be quite honest.

IF you use such memory intensive apps, but rarely, 4GB will suit you just fine.

And, As stated earlier in this thread, It increases the load on the NB a great deal (especially if you have a quad) increasing heat.

So its your call depending how you use your PC, and your needs.
