Can there be different folder views?

Apologies guys... I have another (what seems to be straight forward question)

In Windows Vista you are able to change each folder's view
i.e. My digital photo folders use the medium icon thumbnail view, but my apps folder uses the list view and so on...

When I change a view in Windows 7 it seems to set all folder views the same, so once you choose list your have list for all folders or thumbnails etc - is there a way to customise the reg setting like there was in vista as I need to have different views for certain folders?

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated
Tylor

Hello Tylor, and welcome to Seven Forums.

By default everything should be remembered on a per open folder basis except the Windows Explorer size and position when last closed. You might see if resetting the Windows 7 folder views back to default may help.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

hello, I also have a question about that, is there a way that i can have the preview pane open lets say for example a folder with only images, and the others folders with videos, programs etc hidden?

Hello Ruly,

Unfortunately the Preview Pane is universally on or off in all folder templates in Windows 7. There is no option to have it on in some and not the other templates. :(

Sorry,
Shawn

Thanks for the reply,

I must be doing something wrong then (I have used the link to reset all foloder views) but everytime I change a view to large thumbnail or detail it applies that view to every folder?

Are you aware of any seting I can tweak to stop this from happening?

Tylor

Strange. Did you do a clean (format) install to Windows 7, or a upgrade installation?

Tylor are you using Libraries or directly accessing the folder?, if its libraries the way that they look will be universally in a few words every folder will look the same.

Hello Tylor,

He means from within the Libraries location below in Windows Explorer. These do not have separate folder views.

Let try to make this simple. In the libraries once you set a folder (example: My Music) all folders in my music will be the same. This is nice if you are looking to build a library of all your music; let say you set one folder to appear in detail mode, now all music folders will be in that mode. Basically the same thing happens in the My Pictures folder, again if you set the thumbnail size to extra large in one folder all other pic folders will be the same. As stated by Brink this is universal in the libraries.

Now in all other folders (not in the libraries) you can set them for different categories by right clicking on the folder then go to "Properties" choose "Customize", finally go to "Optimize this folder for:" pick the category you want then close. Job done. :)
