My wife's Toshiba laptop originally came with Windows 7 but when the opportunity came to get 10 free of charge she just had to have it. She downloaded and installed the new OS and almost immediately started having trouble. She said she felt like it was a learning curve so I left it alone.

Now after all this time has passed since the free roll back expired she has decided it is causing computer problems and would like to have 7 back. I refrained from saying I told you so, you know, happy wife, happy life. So my question is can Windows 7 be reinstalled over the top of 10 without having to format the hard drive and start over. I have a virgin copy of 7 professional and could certainly use that if it is possible. I can only suppose I could roll the computer back to factory specs with the built in restore drive but that would mean having to save all the documents and email and anything else that would be lost, not to mention the need to reinstall all the programs.

Any advice would be appreciated at this point.

Thanks,
Clyde

Backup your data first, then make a clean install of windows7.

You can try to reinstall windows 7 on w10, but you should face some troubles . IMO

Do you think this will work?

Since I will have to reinstall all the files and programs do you think it would work to just use the onboard restore feature and set the computer back to it original factory specs and Win7 OS?

Just so anyone who happens to see this post later will know how I got everything back to Windows 7. Here is what I did.
I backed up everything that I even thought might be important to my wife then I simply used the Toshiba, but all branded laptops and desktops have this, onboard restore feature. This reset the computer back to the original state, with the Windows 7 OS, then I uploaded everything I had saved and now I have a happy wife, which means I have a happy life. :) :D

Hi,
You were lucky factory restore worked
The recovery partition often gets corrupted
Way past time to use system images to restore your system plus it is not as removing of items as system restore is

Thanks for the information but I did not have a disc image for Windows 7 only for Windows 10. I suppose I should have saved some of the older images from before the change over to 10.:o
