Cannot access my document from windows explorer

Hi,

Today after I logon, i lost all of my desktop icons. In windows explorer, i cannot access c:\user\(my profile). in dos cmd prompt, c:\user\(my profile) showing "file not found".

However in excel and MS word, i can retrieve limited documents by opening via 'Recent documents'. file properties showing my old file path. of course i cannot go to the path via windows explorer.

I tried logoff and can logon with (my profile) name. but after logon, i can only save files under C:\Users\Public because i cannot access my profile.

Is there anyway i can recover my profile or at least get my old My Documents and My Pictures?

Sounds like your profile is corrupted and you were given a new, default profile. See here for how to fix this: Fix a corrupted user profile - Windows Help
