I have 3 Acer Aspires on workgroup, a 6930, a 5517 and a 5732Z, They all have Windows 7 Home Premium. All the computers can access each others public files except none can access the 6930. It appears in the other two's network screen, but when I attempt to access the 6930 is states that "Windows cannot access ...". I can access the other 2 from the 6930 computer without any problem. I have allowed sharing on all computers. When I diagnose from another computer I get a message "Problems found Your computer appears to be correctly configured, but the device or resource is not responding". When I attempt to diagnose the problem from the 6930's troubleshooting/share files & folders screen I get "Problems found Windows requires more information to diagnose the problem Not fixed"

Hello James,

I am not good at networking, hopefully our networking expert Sarah will come along. In the meantime, can you make sure your Advanced Sharing Settings are the same as for the other 2 machines?

Thanks,
~Jonathan

Thanks for responding, the Advanced Sharing Settings are the same as for the other 2 machines, that's why I'm so confused, I can not find anything different between the machines. Until it is fixed I can still share files, I just need to put them in and out of the public folder on the other machines, but I'm very confused.

Sounds like an interesting one. Just to clarify: Is this a *work*group or *home*group? I noticed you said none of the others can access the 6930 but the 6930 can access the others with no problem. Does that mean all the folders on the other two?

It is a workgroup, it's a small office with an existing network containing a Ricoh copier, the 3 Acers all with windows 7 and 2 older computers with XP. I've opened sharing as much as I know how on all the computers and deactivated the firewall. I am able to access all the other computers public folders including adding files to them and copying files from them, but they can't access this one. When I access the network from another computer I can see this one, but when I attempt to access it I get the message "Windows cannot access \\COMPUTER1 Check the speelling of the name..." My router is a D-Link dir-615, but I don't think that is the problem because everything else seems to be working.

On the problem machine, take a look at the Network and Sharing Center and go into Advanced Sharing Options. What options are enabled? You may have done this but we'll still need to see it.

Just saw this on another thread.

Look at the services and see if the "TCP/IP NETBIOS Helper" service is running.

Control Panel => System and Security => Administrative Tools => Services

RedBirdDad:

I'm having this exact same issue. I see that the person you were helping here never answered your last question. I was hoping you could help me with it. I, like him, am getting the same exact error message when any of my three other computers try to access my Acer computer on my home WORKGROUP. (you asked if it was doing this on Homegroup or Workgroup earlier to the other person, it is doing it on both.) I can get on the Acer and access any other computer on the network, but none of the others can access it. I checked the "TCP/IP NETBIOS Helper" as you asked of him and it is started on my Acer. Can you help?

Hello jencar124, and welcome to Windows Seven Forums.

This thread is six months old. If you like, I can have your post moved to a new thread where you can get help from many who are currently online and willing to offer help?

Also, it would help to know what OSs (XP, Vista, or 7) you have connected to your network and if there is a "Homegroup" setup or not. Homegroup is only compatible with Windows 7 computers, so if you have other computers connected to your home network they will not work well with HomeGroup.

Cheers!
Robert
