Cannot compress .dmp files

Hello,

I am getting fairly regular BSODs. But the problem is that I cannot compress .dmp (minidump files).

I have tried a number of things.

(1. Create dump folder on desktop, copy/paste .dmp to this folder, send to compressed folder does not work)
(2. Download "Takeownership" and install, create dump folder on desktop, copy/paste .dmp file to this folder, right click on the .dmp file amd 'Takeownership', send to compressed file does no work as it says I do not have permission).

There seems to be something wrong with my file permissions at some stage. I have just done a standard WIN 7 install and not changed any settings at all.

Any help would be appreciated.
