Hello,
I have been getting errors on multiple computers getting errors every time they boot up. They are windows 7 32 bit machines. They are getting "Cannot create directory C:\Windows\LastGood." And "Cannot create file C:\Windows\System32\wbem\Logs\wbemess.log" Any help to get these pop ups to stop would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the help!

Hi anonomousity, welcome to Seven Forums,

You say you have been getting these errors on multiple computers!
Have you installed any new software, firmware, updates or hardware?
You need to find out what is the common denominator for the multiple computers.

I hope this helps!

It's a business, and we have many of the same computers getting the same software, firmware updates and only 2 of the computers are having the issue out of about 50 of the same model. No hardware changes on the 2 having issues. It would likely by difficult to find what may be causing it if that's the case due to a small number of machines having the issue also that they started experiencing them on different days.

Hi anonomousity,

Are all the computers just workstations that run the software etc directly from the network or are all the computers standalone computers with their own software installed on each and access the network?

If they are standalone computers have you tried rebuilding them to see if that corrects the problem?
If they are workstations have you contacted the IT department and logged the problem?

It sounds like a network issue.

I hope this helps!

They are standalone that access the network. I was hoping to find a solution that doesn't require them to be rebuilt. If that is the only solution I will go that route. Was hoping there was a quicker way I could do this from being at a remote location.

LastGood refers to the "Boot with Last Good Configuration" option you can chose when you boot the computer. I'll bet if you delete the contents of that folder, or if you delete the folder itself, the error message will stop. I'm not sure if it is safe to delete the LastGood folder. But you might try renaming it to something else, such as LastGoodOld. After you have done that, create a new, empty LastGood folder in the C:\Windows folder. Then reboot. You can always rename the old one back to the original name if needed.

I've never done the above, and I'm not absolutely sure of the effect of doing this. But this is what I would do if I were in your situation.

As for the second error (wbemess.log), this file is obsolete in Windows 7. To stop the error message, check to see if that file exists in that folder; and if so, delete it. Then reboot.

If possible, do a backup first.

Thanks for your thoughts. I was going to try renaming it but I cannot even find the file when following that file path. Thoughts on creating a new one if I can't even find that the file exists on the C drive?

If you can't find the folders where these files are supposed to be located, create the folders, so that if Windows tries to create those files, it will be able to.

I will give that a shot and see if it works! That's exactly what I was thinking, but was hesitant to try and was wanting to ask and see what others thought first.

Thanks again for the input!
