Cannot download file, "could not be saved,...", or see on external HD
I have seen this problem a lot on other forums and the solutions do not work. I even tried a work-around using another computer and that is where it gets very interesting. I am trying to DL Himachi (Hamachi - Download). It downloads fine on every other computer in my house and my friends.
My problem is with a brand new Alienware 17 running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit.
Using Firefox, I get this error when I prompt it to DL:
"C:\Users\[MyName]\SoftonicDownloader_for_hamachi.exe could not be saved, because you cannot change the contents of that folder.
Change the folder properties and try again, or try saving in a different location."
I receive this error message no matter where I try to save it and even when I try the troubleshooting tips from Mozilla and other forums in which this error has been discussed at length.
Using Explorer, I try to "save as" and I get:
"You'll need to provide administrator permission to copy this file" [I click 'Continue']
User Account Control pops-up and ask me if I will give permission to
Program Names: Microsoft Windows
Verified Publisher: Microsoft Corporation
File Origin: Hardrive on this computer"
[I say Yes, Then Error:]
"Could not find this iteam
This is no longer located in C:\Users\[MyName]\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\TemporaryInternetFiles\Low\Content.IE5\9EHQUAZA.
Verify item's location and try again."
WORK-AROUND: I simply DL Himachi from another computer, put it onto an external HD, and then plugged the HD into my gaming laptop. Now, when I open the external HD, I see Hamchi there, but it INSTANTLY disappears from the external HD. If I take the HD back to my other computer, Himachi is gone! I put it back on the HD, eject HD, plug it right back to old laptop, and its still there. But if I take that Himachi file anywhere near my new gaming laptop, it disappears immediately!
Help? Thanks!
