Hi Guys
A month of headaches with my new build led me here, I just can't get a clean install!
The first install did not go well but after a few attempts it booted and was working, I was 7.9 all the way but was plagued by core windows program faults, simple things like windows explorer would fail, internet explorer etc things that should just work. I tried a few more installs but always got failure at 18% expanding files, I stripped the pc down and rebuilt swapping the moduals and just using minimum hardware. Trying to keep this as shrt as possible. I began to doubt the SSD, It looks like data is being corrupted during install, but I may be wrong. Fail reports tell me files are corrupted but not always the same ones. I tried to install to other HD's, three in all but still same issue, I have tried fresh installs and also upgrade installs, formatting and reallocating makes no difference. I also updated sata, chipset and bios, tried a different copy of windows 7, Today I bought a new optical drive and swapped out the sata cables. I got past 18% but got bluescreen after reboot before 19%. The best I have had is windows is finalising installation and it crashes after the reboot. I thnk I tried just about everything I know but now I have to hand over to the experts I have read about in here. Sorry for the long post.

Is this referring to the memory modules? The memory is what I would suspect in your situation. Are you sure you have the correct memory modules for your mobo?

Are you running stock speed and voltage or have you attempted any OCing?

Thanks strollin,
I was refering to the memory modules, Yes I was advised that this memory was suitable for the V-Pro, and 1,600 is listed as suitable in the user guide.

Im just running the build at stock no reason to overclock

Sounds like that might work, but I have no idea where to get this installer, I looked on MS website but see nothing specffic abut installing the OS.

Perhaps you could post a link for the software?

Thanks Again Mac,
I will use this link although im not 100% convinced that the installer is the issue, im leaning toward the sata controllers or a possible problem with my motherboard, it uses both intel and asmedia controllers, I have tried both during the install but while I was in the bios this morning I noticed that two sata ports that are reported as sata 6g are listed in bios as 3g im not sure if this is relevent as I am far from expert in theses matters. Im going to remove the gfx card and have a fiddle with the sata configuration.

It looks like we are getting somewhere here, I stripped the whole thing down and rebuilt it last night, I got the iso from the link (thank you again) using the newly burned dvd, bare essentials and only one stick of ram the install was a complete failure, same problem although I got past the watergate 18% unpacking files the PC got right to the finnish line (finalising) but crashed after the reboot. I have been examining the memory configuration and am now convinced that this is a memory issue. Iam using 4 matched sticks of corsair vengence 1600 ddr3 (x4.16gig) and although this memory is listed as suitable in the motherboard user manual ...... (now is the part where my brain starts to rust) Im guessing that dimm4 is standard for a matched set? I am using 4 sticks of 4gig but the manual only lists corsair on dimm4 running at 1600 up to 8gig 2x4 or 32gig 4x8, now im not too sure if this is significant as im a dummy when it comes to understanding memory configurations, I had to ask an (Expert) <-----pha about choosing the vengence in the first place. so now im looking at swapping out the memory but have no idea what would be best at a reasonable price, do i need to consider the cpu as well as the moby when choosing the type of memory?

update!
ASUS support suggested I reconfigure the sata controller in bios to IDE mode rather than AHCI, would you belive it worked perfectly, still a bare bones set up with minimum hardware but it has now installed windows, now I have to figure out why it refuses to install with sata set to ahci, I thought this was the optimal sata setting for a new/recent setup.

Hi guys.
At last I have a stable and working build. Thank you all for the support ,,, I do however have one more issue that is as yet not resolved ..
In bios the sata configuration list shows x2 sata 6gb and x4 sata 3gbs . it should be x4 sata 6gbs & 2 sata 3gbs... I really need to know if this is a fault on the moby so I can get it replaced.

Even if you took the MB out of your PC and tried to return it, I doubt if they would take it back because the number of different sata ports. Even if they did exchange it, would you really want to go through all the hassle of getting a new board, installing it again for something that you could not tell any difference in performance?

I really do see your point Mac, and yes It would be a major pain haing to start again with a new moby, I guess its just having to accept that the machine although now running is just a little short of perfect. uess I can chalk it up to within expected peramiters.

Thanks again.
