Hi
I initially installed windows with IDE enabled on my mobo, then enabled ahci as per the method shown here: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/61869-ahci-enable-windows-7-vista.html
however I still cannot hostwap drives. using another install i had of Fedora i was able to hotswap drives so it cannot be a hardware issue. Is there any way of fixing this problem without reinstalling windows?
didn't make any difference. also forgot to mention Ive tried intel matrix storage manager and rapid storage technology which didn't help either. Going into device manager and scanning for hardware changes brings up the disk, however it should detect it automatically. I also cannot safely remove it once Ive done that
Check the CD/DVD that came with your motherboard and browse to see if there is a stand-alone AHCI driver on it (not the RAID/AHCI driver that was on the website).
I have one on my Asus CD.

Only have a Jmicron driver for the extra 2 sata ports on the CD. I don't see how this is a driver issue though becuase of the fact that it worked perfectly in Fedora without any intel drivers. Ive looked around and found this post here which is something similar to my problem. Can't Hot Swap - The Corsair Support Forums
The only way this person solved it was to reinstall windows. Ill probably try installing windows on a different drive with ahci enabled initially and see if that fixes the problem.
managed to solve the problem without windows reinstalling windows. Seems as though it wont autodetect with intels ahci driver, only with microsoft's standard driver. Was able to set it back to the microsoft driver through device manager (standard ahci controller). Must have had some kind of intel pch driver from the start when i first did driver installs for my build. Thanks for the help
