Solved Cannot Install Office 2010

I had uninstalled Office 2010 because my computer was crashing and I could not figure out why.
Now that the problem has been resolved, I cannot reinstall Office.
I have done 2 fix-its, and I did a clean boot.
I also tried to install in safe mode and safe mode with networking.
The error message is : "Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010 encountered an error during setup."
There is no error code.
What can I do?

Did you Office Pro come with your HP laptop as a trial version or did you buy Office Pro and installed it.

You could try disabling your anti virus for the Office install.

Office Reinstall

I had the same problem some time ago. My problem stemmed from the fact that I had previously installed and uninstalled Office. There was left over register entries that had to be cleaned out. I looked for the files that I used to accomplish this and they are old and obsolete, although they still exist. Here is a link to one from Micro Soft that may work for you. It is an installation cleanup tool.

I used the cleanup utility, and know I am getting an error 1402, cannot open registry key, to verify that I have sufficient permissions to access the registry.
I have backed up the Hkey software, but do not know how to proceed, or what else I could do.

What happened to the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility (MSICUU2.exe)?

I tried the solution at: How to fix 'Error 1402. Could not open key: UNKNOWN...'

After a couple of fixes, I was given a key which was not listed.

I have attached screenshots.

Now what?

Ownership

There are more steps than one in this suggestion.

It seems to me that you have some directories that the install is trying to write to that you do not have permission to write to. You will have to search manually through your tree to find any instances of Office. Below is where I find them in my directory tree. When you find these instances you will want to delete them. If they are not there not to worry after an uninstall they should be gone. But now I am going to suggest you take ownership of these locations so that during an install you can write to these locations. (locations are below) I have provided a link to a zip file that will supply a registry hack that makes taking ownership a rather easy step.
This file exists on Win 7 Forums but I can't find it.

Substitute your user name in the place of bob in these paths.

C:\Documents and Settings\bob\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft
C:\Documents and Settings\bob\Application Data\Microsoft
C:\Program Files (x86)

Add "Take Ownership" to Explorer Right-Click Menu in Win 7, 8 or Vista

I am sorry you misunderstood. I listed the wrong title.
I have NOT successfully reinstalled Office 2010. I previously had it on my system, but uninstalled it when the system kept crashing.
I am now attempting to reinstall.
I followed your instructions, however I could not locate Documents and Settings.
Then, I learned it was changed to Users.
When I compare the example you gave to the one on my computer, my name name is already in the string of info given.

Documents And Settings

I believe you should have a directory as was shown in the clip that I posted. Something is amiss.

Click on start and select accessories, you should find the "command prompt". RIGHT click on it and select run as administrator. At the prompt type "sfc /scannow" this will look at most win files for corruption. If this turns out with no results. I'll look for the remedy to the directory tree.

SFC is looking good. Show me some screen shots of where in your tree you find document folders. Also did you download and install the reg hack for taking ownership. If you did your context menu should now have a take ownership choice.

I did install the reg hack and am able to "take ownership."

Not Clear Maybe

Good that you have the take ownership hack installed.
What I am asking is where in your tree is Office trying to install. It should be one or some of those locations that I posted in an earlier post. The problem could be that where ever it is trying to install you do not have permissions on that location. That is why I asked you to install the hack. It would be really easy to take ownership and have permissions. I hope this is making sense.
