Solved cannot install win7 64 on uefi system

I read somewhere that Windows 7 likes all same drives either logical or primary but not mixed.

I don't know from where did you get that idea. My own system uses a mix of primary and logical partitions and works without any issues.

Being this drive is the only logical drive send causing the box to not boot may hold water.

If i understand correctly, your system won't boot if a particular disk is connected and that disk in question is already partitioned as "Primary". Converting that partition to "Logical" will prevent any attempt from the part of BIOS to boot from it. So it is likely to fix your issue than causing more troubles.

Being said that, nobody can guarantee that converting "Primary" to "logical" won't cause any data loss. I have been using "Partition Wizard" for years and it never failed for me. But make sure to backup anything important before beginning the conversion.


Edit: Didn't noticed your reply. It seems that the disk was logical" not "Primary".

Well converted all logical to primary with partition wizard and boots fine, all data intact!.

So i guess disk 2 "Movies and Videos" was the problem disk. Am i right ?.

Yes that drive was set to logical. I converted to primary, and Windows boots with no issues. All data was still accessible. If you notice in screen shot that is only drive that was logical. My only issue now is I accidentally used the clean cmd on one of the other drives and now need to recover that data.

It is disk 3 that is giving the problem.

Disk 3 was Primary not Logical. You were to convert it to Logical. Now you say you converted the only Logical which was Disk 2 and it boots with all drives?

If you wiped Disk 3 then that's the reason they all start now because I told you that has what's worked in the past. Ahmad wanted you to try Logical conversion first. We couldn't have been more specific including the clear warning twice to back up your data

To recover the cleaned drive you must run Partition Wizard Partition Recovery Wizard on it. How to activate Partition Recovery Wizard of partition magic? Partition Wizard Partition Recovery Wizard Video Help.. Use the Quick Scan. If you formatted it will not work and all is lost.

How could you run that Command by mistake? We're your files backed up? Why can you not follow clearly stated steps? What next?

Because for some reason disk 0 was always the main 3tb drive when I was trying to get the install to work. I bet I ran diskpart at least a half a dozen times. My 1st cmd was list disk to make sure disk 0 was my target drive. The last time I tried to do fresh install I rushed and instead of typing list disk, I typed sel disk 0 which EVERYTIME had been my 3tb target drive. Somehow it changed and disk 0 was one of my slave drives. Dont ask me how, but I am totally bummed about it.

Typo I meant to say disk 2 told you doing this on my phone not computer hard to not typo. Disk 2 was logical made it primary and windows booted.

So you did not run the Clean command since the problem began?

Did you format over the disk you Cleaned? If so the partitions and most likely the data are unrecoverable.

If not follow the video instructions exactly for PW Partition Recovery Wizard. The Quick Scan should show you the partitions you deleted, and it will let you undelete them.

Then it is almost always recoverable if you follow the video instructions precisely.

Ask back any questions before acting if you are in doubt. The only risk is if it misreports partition sizes and warns you of overlapping which we can help you sort.

What exact command you used ?. Is it CLEAN or CLEAN ALL. Behavior of both commands are different. CLEAN will clear all partitions but we can recover them using various tools. On the other hand, CLEAN ALL is a secure wipe command which will write zeros to all sectors -even professional data recovery won't help you.
