Hi everyone,

I've spent about 2 hours so far trying to figure this one out, so I'm hoping someone in the forums might be able to lend a hand.

ISSUE
*****
I'm unable to install Service Pack 1 on a Windows 7 Ultimate x64 system. Based on initial investigation, it appears to be related to a missing/corrupt packager.dll file.

WHAT I'VE TRIED
**************
I've tried sfc /scannow and the System Readiness Tool, but neither fix the problem. Included below is the output from system readiness tool and I've attached the more detailed output from the sfc /scannow.

I'd appreciate any help you could offer, I really would like to avoid rebuilding this system if possible.

Thanks in advance!

I've uploaded a file - dgmaa.zip - to my OneDrive at Noel's OneDrive
Please download and save it.

Right-click on the saved file and select Extract all...
Change the target to C:\ and click on Extract
Close all windows (it would be a good idea to print these instructions!)

Now reboot to the Repair Environment - as soon as the machine restarts, start tapping F8 - this should bring up the Advanced Boot Menu, at the top of which should be the option 'Repair my Computer'
Pick that
You'll have to log in with your username and password.

Pick the option to use a Command Prompt
At the prompt type
DIR C:\dgmaa
hit the enter key - if you get a 'Not Found' error try
DIR D:\dgmaa
or
DIR E:\dgmaa

The drive letter in use when you find the folder will need to be substituted (for<drive>) into the following command...

XCOPY <drive>:\dgmaa <drive>:\windows\winsxs /y /i /s /v /h

(e.g. XCOPY P:\wfire P:\windows\winsxs /y /i /s /v /h )

run the command (it should take almost no time) and when the prompt returns, type
EXIT
and hit the Enter key to exit Command Prompt - reboot to Normal Mode Windows.

Now run SFC /SCANNOW in an Elevated Command Prompt
then reboot and upload the FULL new CBS.log file to your reply - copy it to your desktop and compress it for upload.
Also, run CheckSUR again, and post the FULL CheckSUR.log file

Hi NoelDP,

Thanks for the quick response. If you don't mind me asking, how did you get your hands on those files. I created a separate Windows 7 Ultimate x64 install, updated everything, and those files were not in the C:\Windows\winsxs directory.

It comes from having kept the system up-to-date for the past 4 years ;) Any I don't actually have installed I can extract from the relevant download (if I can find it!)
