Cannot install Windows 7 x64 bit on my Compaq Prasario CQ42 laptop

Hi there, My laptop was working perfectly for three years and suddenly failed to start. I re-installed Windows 7 x64 bit bit it was damn slow. After turned off it refused to start up again. Again I tried to install the same OS but the process is stuck in the window whereby the message 'Setup is starting' is shown. The process is not proceeding forward. Puppy Linux is booting from the cd though it takes long time. Plz help me with your valuable advice ASAP.

What symptoms were present when the computer failed to start? The problem may be related to hardware and not software which could also be the reason why re-installing the OS isn't working. Additional evidence of a possible hardware problem is that your Puppy Linux is booting slowly. Are you using an external power supply or just the battery?
