BACKGROUND:
I have two PCs, one running XP Pro SP3, the other running 7 Pro, that are connected to the internet through a router. Both are using 192.168.x.x for those connections.
Each PC also has a 2nd network adapter with a Cat6 crossover cable connecting them. These adapters use 10.100.x.x for their private addresses.
Using the Windows 7 PC, I can use remote desktop to connect to and control the XP PC over the 10.100.x.x connection. It works perfectly.
While using Remote Desktop, I can then map to a shared drive on the Windows 7 PC FROM the Windows XP machine, again over the 10.100.x.x connection. That too works perfectly.
I can ping each computer from the other, using the 10.100.x.x connection.
PROBLEM:
The problem is when I try to map to a shared drive on the Windows XP machine FROM the Windows 7 machine over the otherwise perfectly working 10.100.x.x connection.
I continually get an error that reads
Error code: 0x80070035.
The network path was not found.
I have verified that the share is set up, that I have the permissions set correctly. I have the same user ID on each PC.
I am at a loss to explain it or fix it.
The only "odd" thing I have found is that in Windows 7, the second adapter (10.100.x.x) is listed as "Unidentified Network", and under that it reads "Public Network", even though the adapter is used for a direct connection to the Windows XP machine.
Any ideas what might be wrong?
