I am in Mexico and my desktop crashed. I know what has been a good repair shop. I took it there and the problem was the power supply. At first she thought it was the mother board but it was the power supply. She saved all my files but lost windows. Naturally she installed a bootleg of Windows Pro . I have the original windows disc and will do a downgrade to Windows home. She also installed AVAST. I think it is causing problems. However I am unable to uninstall. I tried REVO and just remove programs in control panel. neither will get rid of it. I downloaded a program from AVAST that is supposed to do the uninstall. No luck. Any help appreciated.

Well yea you cannot do a downgrade of editions so you will have to re-install. It's also the best way of installing a genuine copy of windows for your situation because I am pretty sure the current installed OS in your system has modified files already.

I tried the avast uninstaller in safe mode. No luck. As for Windows: I did find instructions on the net for the downgrade. I will look for them and repost but you have to download the MS Downgrade software first. My disc is Home Premium. It is an upgrade disc. When I bought this computer it came with the infamous Vista. Within a few weeks I got a free( or maybe it was low cost) upgrade to W7. I wonder if it will work with a clean install? Thanks

Hi moisheh,

Believe the link you found relates ONLY to downgrade from Ultimate.

However you may have another fly in the ointment, good English expression.
RE i only have an >> upgrade disc <<

If you follow the clean install proceedure it will NOT accept your product key as being genuine
Read this specific tutorial
Clean Install with a Upgrade Windows 7 Version - Windows 7 Help Forums

can provide a W7 with SP1 link, suspect yours is only W7.

I don't understand why the shop technician (assuming it's a technician) installed Windows Pro while you had Windows Home.
But even so why do you want to downgrade? It sounds like Windows Pro they installed on your machine isn't legit and if it's, I assume you paid for it so why downgrading?

Very happy with this buid.
I struggled a lot to find all compatible parts since I wanted an Intel 1151 based motherboard so to be able to install Windows 7.
I chose this case because it has amazing air flow, it's sturdy and looks good.
The case included 1x 200mm front and 1x 120mm back fans, I added 1x 200mm on the top and 1x120 bottom fans and modded the panels with black stockings for women s
Completely Uninstall Avast software using aswClear.exe:

  1. Download aswClear.exe on to your desktop
  2. Start Windows in Safe Mode
  3. Open (execute) the uninstall utility
  4. If you installed avast! in a different folder than the default, browse for it. (Note: Be careful! The content of any folder you choose will be deleted!)
  5. Click REMOVE
  6. Restart your computer
