I tried searching for this but could not find any posts dated in this year 2016.
I do remember seeing something about chrome not using some add-on or plugins after 2015.
My wife is getting on me for not be able to view/open PDF files.
We do have MS office 2010 if that matters.
thanks for any help .

I am using Chrome and there is no issue when view in pdf as in tab.

Check your Chrome version

Did you install any Adobe pdf in your computer.
Go to Adobe and install the free pdf reader.

What Chrome means is the extension must comply with Chrome policy.

Go to this link;

Do search for pdf.
Select the Extension to view all available.
