Solved Can't Access Unallocated Space On New Hard Drive

Hi,

I'm using Windows 7 and I've just purchased a new 3TB internal hard drive. I went to Computer Management to format the drive, but it will only allow me to access 2048GB. There is 746.52GB of unallocated space. When I right click on the larger part which I've formatted, "Extend Volume..." was greyed out. Please can someone tell me how to access all of the space on my new hard drive?

I think some motherboards can't handle 3 TB drives.

I haven't got a good handle on all of this myself, but you may have to use GPT partitions, rather than MBR.

You haven't filled out your system specifications, so no one knows what hardware you have.

I'd certainly dig into the motherboard's specifications at the manufacturer website and see what it supposedly supports.

Some motherboard manufacturers have something called a "3 Terabayte unlock tool" that supposedly helps in some cases. It's probably related to whatever chipset your motherboard has.

Do you intend to put Windows on this drive or is it just for data?
