Can't Adjust Screen Brightness............HELP!

I have the same problem. I have a Toshiba M750 TabletPC. What I found a few days ago was an option in Win7 to enable the automatic screen brightness feature, and enabled it, thinking that it might help me when out in the field. However, when using the laptop undocked today, I found that I could not use the unit's built-in adjustments with the Fn key! I managed to override it my manually setting the screen brightness in Win7, but I'm afraid the default option of using the Fn key to adjust the screen is now disabled. I can't find the option what I enabled recently in Win7 - anywhere! Nor can I find any solution online, so don't know where it went. I'm also using Classic Shell to allow me to have a XP-type feel to things, so this might be preventing me from finding this option - I have no idea where to look now. Anyone know exactly where this might be? TIA!

POSSIBLE SOLUTION that worked for me!!!

If you have installed teamviewer and the teamviewer's driver provided for your screen (that it is can be done from advanced settings in version 6) RESTORE IT to the previous monitor driver and it will work instantly!!!!

If you don't know if the driver is installed just locate the monitor in device manager. The teamviewer's driver is named teamviewer monitor driver or something like that... It was for me easy enough to understand the difference...
Well at this point just RESTORE PREVIOUS MONITOR DRIVER (NO UNISTALL) in 7 (or xp or vista)

For all others that DO NOT HAVE TEAMVIEWER installed I suggest to reinstall the ORIGINAL MONITOR DRIVERS and NOT DISPLAY DRIVERS CARDS brightness control seems to be depended from monitor drivers.

Please add the solutions that were found in topic start.

I have an Asus 1018p and I've been attempting to figure this out on this netbook for the better part of two months now. Finally figure it out, for me it was the Monitor driver, It was set as "Generic PnP Monitor", When it should have been set to "Generic non-PnP Monitor" I must have updated the video drivers on this thing a dozen times, and i knew it wasn't hardware related. Just thought i would share the fix that worked for me.

Uninstalling the TeamViewer monitor driver worked for me

THANK YOU stsaerox -- I can finally use the laptop in the bedroom without waking up my wife!!!
I'm using Teamviewer7, and went to: Extras; Options; Advanced; Show advanced options; Advanced network settings; Uninstall monitor driver

If you're not using Teamviewer, as stsaerox suggested, go to Monitors in Device Manager. Double click on the monitor, go to the Driver tab, and try Roll Back driver. If that doesn't work you should be able to just uninstall it (right click on it and chose Uninstall)... And then Action, Scan for hardware changes. A generic monitor adapter should be found.
BTW, after uninstalling the TeamViewer adapter, mine now shows up as Generic PnP Monitor.

To fix the ASUS brightness on a desktop with an AMD Radeon HD6800 video card.
All Control Panels: Display : Devices and Printers:
Right click on ASUS monitor
Display Settings
Advanced Settings
Catalyst Control Center
Desktop Management:Desktop Color
Now the Brightness/Contrast/Gamma can be adjusted

Hopefully other Video cards have a similar video control

Simple way to enable screen brightness adjustment

This issue irritated me very much, especially because the full, uncontrolled brightness drained my laptop's battery pretty quickly, but I've finally found a simple solution.

I have a HP 4535s laptop with Windows 7 Home 64. This worked for me some 10 minutes ago:
- Right-click on Computer and click on Properties.
- A new window appears. Click Device Manager in the upper left corner
- A Device Manager window appears. Double-click on Monitors in the list. In my case there was just one monitor shown, Generic PnP Monitor.
- Right-click on that monitor and choose Uninstall. Click OK to confirm.
- In the same Device Manager window, click on Action, then Scan for hardware changes.
- After a short while, Windows recognizes the monitor and reinstalls it. The brightness adjustment ability is then restored back to normal.
- Close Device Manager.

Yes, it works. I'm using TeamViewer 9, but still the problem with monitor driver exists! Why this problem has not fixed from version 6 ?!!!

I knew that i have installed a program which caused this problem, but cannot find it! I have reinstalled graphic card's driver, restart computer many times, using safe mode,... bot none works! (I'm using Vostro 3350)

Thank You Man.;)

Since this thread was full of good suggestions, I have another to add.
I installed Windows 7 on my ASUS laptop, and post-install I had no options to change brightness (hotkeys didn't work, no slider in power options, no block in mobility centre). I tried the Intel Driver Update Utility, ASUS Live Update and the Splendid Utility, installed the ATK keyboard utility, tried the monitor driver un/reinstall in the device manager, and none of them worked. Finally, persistent googling brought me to the Intel website for the countless time, where I was able to find the HD Graphics drivers to install manually. It finally worked! You might think the Intel Driver Update would do this for you, but it didn't. Here is the link:
https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/24973/Intel-HD-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-7-8-8-1-64-bit
Hopefully this helps you if you've had the same problems I've had.

PS: This also got f.lux to work for me, which I had hoped might be a substitute for fixing the brightness controls, but didn't.
