What exactly is downloaded? Are there seven files including Setup which need to be compiled into an ISO, an ISO, or 3 files as in a student download?

There are tutorials given earlier for converting the 7 files into an ISO, for converting the 3 (student) files into an ISO, and for burning an ISO.

I have always used ImgBurn at 4x speed with Verify to burn DVD as it never fails. You can also select Verify Disk, load in your iSO and it will tell you if it is bootable and then verify it against the DVD.

Update: I asked my friend to download the iso for me instead. And guess what, he actually got it as an iso-file! =) (only 360 Mb though)

It seems to work so I give up my attempts to "ISOfy" my original (seemingly auto-extracted) download. All seems well. Except that I'm now on a new search for drivers to my DVDunit in the ASRock computer since win7 installer prompts me to install these. They are not included in the driverDVD delivered with the computer.

In my next life, I will a) get really tech savy 2) live from what nature gives :D

You may have downloaded the wrong thing - a language pack perhaps.

The download should be about 3gb for x64 - that's many times the size of what you got.

It will probably come as an .iso

If not, you can create a bootable .iso using vlite - it will work if you have the correct files.

The free iso creator will not work - it cannot create bootable .iso 's , let alone the windows install files, which require a very special program to deal with etfsboot.com

360mb?I think you've downloaded the wrong file...

Create an iso by simply drag and drop the files into imageburn.
After that save it as an iso file.
Get a Dvd-R.
Burn it at a slow speed.Recommended x4 speed.

:)

If it is already an .iso , it can be burnt with imgburn , or any number of free isoburners.

If you have the installation files - you need a special app. cdimage, or oscdimg, or vlite, to create a bootable .iso .

Imgburn cannot create a successful bootable .iso from windows installation files :( - not unless you "borrow" the boot.img from another Vista/7 .iso

Thanks again a million for all suggestions! Problem is now solved. In a bit of a funny way.

I tried the disc my friend burned (neither of us understands why "his" download was so small. It worked to boot from, and when i was promted for the driver for the DVD unit, I just swopped it to the disc I burned before (that wasn't bootable) and what do you know - it worked!!

I will give up trying to understand why I couldn't get a bootable DVD. I tried several times both with vlite and Active@ ISO Burner - Free software downloads and software reviews - CNET Download.com (as an iso-image). The problem with "missing DVD-drivers" is described by others elsewhere in this forum. As for me, I'm just happy it worked out in the end, even if it feels like a mystery just how... Anyway, I have win7 succesfully installed on my computer and things seem to run just fine. Case closed. I hope =)
