Can't copy files to shared Homegroup Start Menu

I have a subfolder under C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu on my desktop that I want to copy to the same folder on a laptop which is part of my home network. I've explicitly set the shared properties of ...Start Menu on the laptop to Homegroup (Read/Write). Nevertheless, when I try to copy the subfolder from my desktop to the laptop I get the message "Destination Folder Access Denied: You need permission to perform this action." How do I get "permission"?

Let's make sure we are thinking the same steps here: You have shared the laptop's C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu on the network and checked that the permissions on the shared Start Menu folder are set to Read/write for Homegroup? You need to do that twice: once on the folder as it is listed under Network and once where the folder is listed in C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu. As ProgramData is a system folder you might also have to set Homegroup to have the right to "traverse folder" on ProgramData.
Quite a bit of work for replacing a few files really. Why do you have to do this over the network? Can't you just copy the file and do it locally? Mind you you might still have to tweak the permission on the ProgramData folder but at least you only have to do that once......

Thanks for the info. I'm leaving on a trip (my reason for copying) but will check it out on my return. Yes it does seem like a lot of work, and I've gone ahead & copied the files through a flash drive, just as you suggest. Thanks again.
