[Solved] Can't delete MagicTunePremium - it is open somehwere?

In an effort to calibrate my monitor (Samsung 173p), I had to dl its control application (MagicTune). When I tried to use the app, there were several things that were not available, so I tried to uninstall the app. To uninstall I used the W7 uninstall program. Well, MagicTune no longer appears in the W7 app (nor does it appear in another uninstall app I use, Revo Uninstaller); however, much of the program still appears in the Program Files x86. When trying to simply delete it from PGF x86, I get an dropdown telling me that "The action can't be completed because the folder or a file in it is open in another program." ...try again. I've taken ownership of the app and have restarted W7, all to no avail. I just can't (don't know how to) find where it is open. Help, please.

Download and install LockHunter, makes it easier to see what is locking the files and to get rid of them.

Thanks, but now I am in big trouble.
I thought that I had Samsung Syncmaster 173p, but actually have 193p. Doubt if they are really different other than one is 17" and the other is 19". Anyway, the file I dl'd was for the 173 (I think). And, although I couldn't uninstall Magictune, as stated above, I dl'd again and tried to install. Well, long story short, my monitor screen won't turn on as it keeps going to sleep. Rebooted, but although the compter signals that it has rebooted (bell), the monitor's screen never lights up other than its saying it is going to sleep. I'm at a loss as what to do now.

BTW, I do have a laptop that is networked with the desktop (problem with desktop/monitor) - both are W7, and I was wondering if I could view the desktop through the laptop - how???

I realize you see nothing now.
Try using the Syncmaster CD that came with the monitor.
If the Autorun will start the CD it may actitvate the monitor. Ask you to select options and reinstall the driver etc.

Revo

Revo Uninstaller has a "hunter mode". You can drag and drop a file on to it's icon and it will attempt to uninstall the asscoiated program. Another attempt would be to boot into safe mode and try an uninstall.

I'm not trying to jack the thread but I have never needed to go into safe mode to do anything.
I haven't a clue how to do it.
Did a search on the Tutorial section and found none there.

OP may be curious also.

I found lots of tutorials on using safe mode to do things but not how to get there.

Read the above tutorial. This is what you want to try first.
The screen that comes up is run by the bios or DOS so screen should be visible as in tutorial. This should reset everything back to normal. A System Restore of sorts.

Last Know Good Configuration (advanced)

Starts Windows 7 with the most recent registry and driver configurations that worked successfully. Every time you turn your computer off and Windows 7 shuts down successfully, important system settings are saved in the registry. You can use those settings to start your computer if a problem occurs. For example, if a new driver for your video card is causing problems, or an incorrect registry setting is preventing Windows 7 from starting correctly, you can restart your computer using Last Known Good Configuration.

Reboot at the end of the end of the bios messages "F8". Should show you win boot options. Must be done at the correct time. End of boot messages prior to loading Win.

I have concerns about trying a safe mode booting because what if nothing still shows on the screen, how will I know where i am?

Do you see the boot screen (BIOS or MB splash screen) while starting the PC? Or do you start the PC and the monitor never locks on to a signal? If it never lights up, it will be dificult to get into safe mode. Tapping F8 right after starting the PC until you see the Safe Mode loading might work, but on my PC, hitting F8 while the BIOS screen loads gives me a BIOS option. Do you have a Windows 7 Repair disk? Or the Windows 7 install disk?

yeah, the screen never sees the signal from the computer and thus the screen never lights up at all. I'm not sure if i ahve a repair disk. How about my trying to use a different monitor? If I do, what should i expect...that is how do I go about hooking and starting another monitor?

Success: Monitor working and deleted MagicTunePremium

First let me tell you that there was a little more to this story of woe.

At the same time I was fooling aournd trying to clean up anddelete the program, my monitor went blank. I think it happened when I went into sleep mode. Nothing I could do would wake up the monitor. So, naturally, I thought that there was a relationship to my fumbling and the monitor going blank. Called out for help on several forums (http://www.sevenforums.com/general-...up-monitor-wont-showbooted-computer-help.html and Screwed up monitor, won't show booted computer stuff and Monitor not responding to booted computer? - NVIDIA Forums)

A lot of boot in safe mode suggestions; but i was afraid to do this as I thought if the monitor didn't respond, then I wouldn't know where it was when I shut it off...so I didn't do this. However, what I did do was to check out the monitor (had two inputs: DVI and VGA) and its cable with my laptop. Connected VGA to VGA, monitor to laptop, monitor worked fine. Connected DVI to HDMI (the connection that wasn't working), monitor didn't wake up...ah, the cable.

With the monitor now working, I was able to dl LockHunter and it found and deleted MagicTunePremium. I also found the original driver/magictune/natural color disk that came with the monitor. It is about 5-6 years old and I'm wondering if I should try to now dl the right disk (for the 193p monitor, not the 173p as I had done).

EDIT: Screen unresponsiveness may not have been due to the cable, as first thought. Bought a similar cable ($54 ripoff) from RS (will return of course) and tested on the monitor (DVI monitor to HDMI computer)...didn't work. Thus, the monitor's DVI input must have fried. Also, dl'd Magictune (premium for Vista 64 and Windows 7 64...everything is now working fine.
