The folder or a file in it is open in another program.

This bug been going on for a while, on my win7 64bit. When I am done downloading anything through torrent (and no, I am talking legit files here), I can't move them to anywhere else, when I chose to cut them out and paste in new location it says it can't move the folder/file because it is open in another program.

Only solution I found is to kill and restart explorer.exe, but program comes back after just a couple of minutes. Even if torrent program is closed as well.

Any ideas what may be causing this?

Do you have any kind of download accelerator? I would suggest uninstalling any of those (do it one by one, if you have multiples, and checking after each one, just to see which was doing it), followed by any/all torrenting/downloading programs you may have installed (use the same format of one-by-one for this also).

Maybe you are seeding the file and that is why you cant move it somewhere else. Try to stop seeding the file and/or deleting the torrent file and not the download.

Hi,

The reason the file is in use is that µtorrent (or whatever bit torrent client you use) is seeding the file, keeping it active in memory. If you stop the file from seeding you'll find that you can now move anything no longer being seeded.

Heh, guys, thanks for the tips, but I am aware of torrent seeding, I did write in the original post: "Even if torrent program is closed as well". So seeding is not the culprit. Neither do i have any download accelerator.

Got LockHunter installed, and the culprit seems to be the explorer and the thumbs file it creates. A bit annoying, but I guess I will just have to deal with it, since I now can easily unlock the file with the help of LockHunter.

Thanks for the help!

LockHunter

:D Thank you for the suggestion and solution. However, I still do not understand what I should have done to see what was evidently a hidden file in the folder, even though I went through the Security and Permissions drill.

@CyberZues,
I followed your link and installed the so called " LockHunter", but it would not work!! The option to unlock the folder was not available, and when I clicked delete the folder it came back saying it could not be deleted????:mad: I took your advice, and installed a new useless application that does nothing, what in the world????:sick:

Dude. You dug up a thread old enough I posted in it. I'd recommend starting a new thread, and describing your problem there.

Thanks but got it....

Thanks, you are right, this was an older post, and I did not mean to hijack it for this, but as I said, I worked it out after all on my own!!:geek:
