Can't Detect External Hard Disk

I recently installed a program to allow my PC to read Mac formatted hard disks. However, it did not work and from then forward, my PC is unable to detect all other external hard disks, I've tried a few. The drives are not even showing on disk management. The lights on the hard disk do light up with I plug them in but nothing happens.

Is anyone able to solve this mystery for me. BTW this problem only occurred after I installed the above mentioned program.

Well, what's the program and have you tried removing it?
There are simple ways to format external HDDs so they can be used both on PC and Mac. It would be a good idea to format HDDs you know you'll use on both platforms this way. Instructions are usually included with the drive, at least both my LaCie and WD included them.
Hope this helps,
J

Uninstall that program using Revo Uninstaller free. Download Revo Uninstaller Freeware - Free and Full Download - Uninstall software, remove programs, solve uninstall problems

(If you have already uninstalled it by other means, reinstall and then uninstall it with Revo Uninstaller. It can delete the registry entries associated with that program to a large extent.)

Check if your problem is resolved.

If not, open diskpart from an elevated command prompt.

Against the diskpart prompt type automount and press Enter. This will show you the status whether automount is enabled or disabled.

If it shows disabled, type automount enable and press enter to enable it.

Is your problem resolved?

Try running Malwarebytes just in case.

Did you reinstall MacDrive 9?

I would be surprised if it is not listed in Windows Add Remove Programs (Control Panel > All Control Panel Items> Programs and Features) or Revo Uninstaller.

Now, if you do not want to break your head on this, just check whether you have a System Restore point prior to your first installing that program and restore your system to that point. ( You have to reinstall any other programs you installed after that date.)

Edit: Just curious. Did you install the five-day trial version from the software author's site Mediafour or downloaded a pirate copy on torrent downloads?

Are you not able to reinstall the program and then uninstall it? What happens when you try to reinstall it?

I have read that upto around June 12 or so, that program had a bug which prevented the external drives being read on other PCs unless those also had that program installed. It was a strange bug that only applied when the externals were NTFS formatted from the context menu and not when those were formatted in the Disk Management.

The externals would become unreadable even when you uninstall it from your PC.

Mediafour then updated the version and confirmed that the bug had been done away with.

On the subject of uninstalling it, I found this website dealing with it.

Uninstall MacDrive Pro 9.0.0.161 - Howto Removal

It also deals with manually deleting the registry entries.

Hope that helps in getting rid of the pest.
