I decided to format my pc and clean it up to get rid of a bunch of unwanted files and what not. I didn't change OS I just reinstalled it after I formatted. I am running Windows 7 home premium 32 bit. Everything worked just fine before I started but now I can't get seem to find my video card. It is AGP, I know its not the newest but I haven't had any problems to have to replace it. the monitor is plugged into the card but it still says its using the VGA onboard card. I've looked everywhere and downloaded drivers for the card but when i look in device manager it just isn't there. I'm trying to figure out if I need to activate the AGP slot or what? Any help would be appriciated.

Hi Balgar, and welcome to sevenforums,

i'm a little confused here - you say the monitor is plugged into the agp card - is it displaying an image?

maybe you need to go into the bios to turn off your onboard gpu - then windows won't know about it.

ok....I found The, Init display first....under, PnP/PCI configurations. it was set to PCI I changed it to AGP but still nothing. It still shows the VGA adapter. Should I take the card out and boot it with just the VGA then shut down and put the card back in. Or would that jsut be a waste of time

is your monitor plugged into the agp card and working?

if so, windows could be confused and just calling it something like 'standard vga' or something because it doesn't have the right driver installed.

it is plugged into the the AGP card. But when i do look at the VGA adapter in the device manager the specs are nowhere close to what the video card should be

underneith the Init Display First is IRQ resources. It doesn't have a setting. Do I need to have it set to something?

no - you shouldn't have to bother about that with windows 7.

are you sure you've installed the right driver for your card?

since it was working before you reformatted it, lets not change anything from the bios yet..

could you try this..power off the machine, removed the AGP card, connect the monitor into the onboard vga..boot the machine up..install drivers of the built in video card..shutdown the machine, insert the AGP card into the slot, connect monitor into the agp card and power on the machine..see if windows detect as new device, if you have the drivers for it then install it..

download the latest ones from the manufacturer's website - the drivers on discs are normally very old...

what is your agp card?

..or sometimes windows update offers better drivers - normally in the 'optional' section...

i've just remembered that windows 7 sometimes has a problem with agp cards.

i'm trying to search for an answer, but the stupid forum search function says that the words 'ati' and 'agp' are too short to search for

hopefully another forum member will be along soon who knows more...

good luck! :)
