having same issue

recently I was doing security updates on my computer. Instead of checking off all 53 required updates I was doing several at a time. I was in the process of installing 3 new security update when I received and error message. I rebooted my system and got the black (dos prompt) screen telling me the was an issue with the harddrive. The message was something like "a recently installed program" was keeping me from installing the updates. All I recently installed were MS security updates. When I tried to uninstall the most recent I was not allowed. I was told to roll the system back to a previous "restore" backup. Tried that and got an error telling me I could not....

Help It's windows 7 pro with SP-1

How are you trying to get into Safe Mode? I use "msconfig" where you can set the computer to restart in safe mode. If you're using a key combo during boot to get to safe mode, try doing it the other way. Just type "msconfig" in Search, click on it, select safe mode for booting, restart and the you should be able to do system restore.
