Can't get Public Network to change to Home Network! This is with my ethernet cable. Also does not connect to the Internet. I have Googled but the way it shows how to do it is not available to me! Oh I am using Windows 7 professional.

It is the same if you turn off the wifi, also can you fill out your system specs as per the guide in my signature. Then please post a pic of the adapters and your details for your lan one like below. EDIT: try Gokay's method first, I thought that your issue may be something else though.

Why hide the local IP/MAC addresses? They mean nothing for anyone and not disclosing any vital info.

This bit is not same as disabling wireless:

1. In the lower left side of the dialog box, click Choose homegroup and sharing options.
2. Click What is a network location?, and select your network location.
   
   Note If you want to continue setting up a homegroup, follow the remaining prompts. But a homegroup isn’t required, so you also can simply exit the homegroup setup after you select the correct network location.

I'v had people piggyback our net so its filtered, but can't be to careful. Otherwise I would agree with you.

Thank you very much Fix It tool did not work. So I had to fix it myself. By disabling network devices and enable the one that was causing the problem. Then enabling the wireless connection. Thank you so much.

Ok, since not very obvious from your post could you change to Home network and did it also fix no connection
issue?

Restarted computer and I am back to Public network. arrrrrgh

Well I restarted the laptop and now I am back to where I started. I haven't got a clue why it's doing this. This time I fixed it the same way as last time, but ran the fix it tool. I don't know if it just said it has been changed to Home Network, because I had it fixed to home network. So after the fix it tool. I restarted the computer and it's back to Public network with no internet! I don't Know how to get all the specs you are talking about it's a Dell 1545 Inspiron running windows 7 professional.

OK, I will get that sorted out. Does it matter that the ethernet cable was not in when I was installing?

Running Microsoft security essentials. And Malware bytes Premium, haven't got Bonjour installed.




When installing Windows 7 it asks you for a password for your network as I was wireless when installing. Could it just be I need to put a password in for the Ethernet connection? If so how do I go about that?

I am wondering if you can help me mate. I have discovered I can get Ethernet connection by installing Marvell Yukon Ethernet controller driver. But the thing is I have to install it every time I start up my laptop. Do you have any idea what's happening here? I would much appreciate it if you gave me a reply as to what you think is going on.

I can try, how do you need to install every startup? Can you post a screenshot of any Windows that may be auto opening? Or anything that may be useful.

I need to install every time because it's not recognised as a home network. And I have no option to change that. But when I install the driver it automatically goes to home Network. And then I have to do it all over again when I start it up. I am no expert but I don't think it's being stored on the system. And even without installing it , when I go into Device manager there are no warnings. Device is working properly.

I think I will be back to windows 7, Don't like it at all. It's far slower than windows 7

If you still have problems after downgrading back to Windows 7, try:
- Create a manual System Restore point - http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/700-system-restore.html
- Download the latest driver for your network adapter
- Open Device Manager and expand Network Adapters
- Right click and Uninstall - tick "Delete the driver software for this device" too.
- Restart PC
- Windows should auto-install the drivers, if not, install the ones you downloaded
