Can't install about 40 updates...windows 7 professional x64

Hi again,
So I was poking around and searching on this problem and came across this post on experts-exchange.com. The problem description is very similar to mine. It claims a faulty CPU was at fault in this case. So my question here is, how would I go about testing my CPU to see if it is the culprit here?

[Edit: I found an intel integrity test and memtest. I'll run those, but if anyone has any better/other ideas please let me know.]

Here is the post from e-e.com:
No, it was just a fresh built pc.

Anyway, we found the problem; it was a faulty CPU. As soon as we swapped it out, the database rebuilt itself fine, no checksum errors, etc etc.

Figured it had to be something retarded like that as there was almost zero info on the web about these specific problems. There was stuff that was pretty close, but didn't cover all of the symptoms/descriptions.
ESENT, Corrupt Database, Event ID 474 : ESENT Event 474 Windows 7 Can't Update

Thanks again for any help that can be offered.
